Agreed in that it is not very useful to have some important clarifications on rules confined solely to odd JMod posts here and there in General that fall off page 50 within a few months. So yes I do agree with adding the clarification with the CoC.

But yes, JMod instructions still apply as rule when a JMod posts instructions / rules in a forum post format. JMod instructions count as rules in post formats. If you're warned, you can't just tell them "they're wrong". They own the forums...

And again, another thing sometimes tends to be forgetten here... "Letter and Spirit". The Spirit would say that seeing as some of those rules are out of date as specified by Mexk, the most recent clarifications of those in the CoC are what we go by. It's a matter of common sense? (but of course, only really works for those of us who've been here for a long time to know)

Should that thread be updated to ensure full clarity? Definitely. And yes, a new user that comes to the forums and sees that could become slightly confused when comparing with the CoC. That's correct. However, just because that's there, does not mean that the CoC no longer applies, or that what a J/FMod more recently states is not correct. It's just that that forum thread needs a refresh, but yes most of it in there is correct and actually fits within the 3 main rules in the CoC that we have today, with a little bit more relaxed approach. Clarification should either be sought from here or Forum Help, and I think Forum Help actually specifically states that you can use it to ask for clarification in some instances.

You keep bringing up the "spirit", however, it isn't applicable to this situation, as there is nothing in the T&C, the CoC, or the RoR that would permit the sharing of outside contact information, even in "spirit".

It's explicitly the opposite in this case.

If we are following the "spirit" of the rules, then sharing any kind of outside contact information would not be permitted, even though twitter, discord, etc., are not explicitly stated.

By your logic, Jagex would have to enforce every single point in the Terms whenever it is technically breached.

For example, Account Sharing would require a mute or a ban. The reality is that we know that it doesn't, unless you do something else that breaches the rules along with that Account Sharing.

There are many cases in all companies where their Terms state things that aren't always enforced. I'm not going to point them all out, but most adults are normally aware of this.

Even ignoring that fact though, as was mentioned earlier, you agree to comply with any Instructions given on a product, as well as Rules, CoCs etc. These Instructions would include by a volunteer forum mod, as Jagex says you should (unless you instead choose to escalate their conversation and avoid interacting with them, which is also usually ok).

I don't think it is worthwhile me continuing to re-highlight the points that keep being forgotten /ignored/neglected here and there. It is either the Spirit that is forgotten, the Instructions that are forgotten, or something else. The Terms should be interpreted in their entirety, and not singularly (known as taking things out of context or Straw Manning).

I appreciate the point you've made. It's valid to mention that there can be confusion with the what Personal Details are allowed to be posted on the forums. However, that does not mean that the policy that Jagex/FMods have internally does not apply simply because it isn't explicitly stated. If they state it on the forums, then it applies unless you successfully challenge it. And JMods can make up rules on the spot as specified in the Terms. It really doesn't get much simpler than that. That doesn't have to be "helpful" for us, but it is a matter of fact really no matter how much anyone would like to spin it.

Dude, it's a legitimate concern, based in fact.

It's not a strawman fallacy at all.

Just because you don't understand or disagree with the points I have raised, doesn't make it a strawman fallacy.

Mexk has already stated that he would raise the issue with the team. Why are you still contesting it?

It was a new and different topic, but I've become rather fond of the title, and felt it aptly represented the topic. ;)
