Elder rune - why stop at +5

So many items in the game are worn just for the "wow factor" so why not remove the limit on how many elder bars you can add to an item? So make the elder rune items untradeable after you take them beyond +5 and keep the same cumulative bars formula going (doubling at every level). The stats can go up a little at every step or not, doesn't really matter.
Maybe I'd like to take my elder rune pickaxe to level +15 (adding a total of 65,536 elder bars) just for the fun of it. Heck, level +20 would be really impressive and might even take an entire year and 22 billion gps to make!

Because getting level 99 weaponry isn't currently possible and adding it solely to Smithing would break the game economy.

You basically delivered the reasons right there: RS isn't some kind of asia grinder, in which increased +x will require an eversomore unreasonable amount of materials.

Even at +30, any smithable armor is trash (exception of masterwork, but you can't upgrade that) because right now its powerarmorscape. If you aren't using power armor over pretty much any tank gear (Achto is better at high enrage telos though) you're trolling.

Not really. Tier 115 tank armor would be insane.

With the way tank armor works right now it will still probably be better to use power armor because more kills per hour = more GP per hour. IMO tank armor should just flat out removed at this point, its clear Jagex has no clue how to balance it and are completely opposed to it being good (no dyes either wtf?). They even refuse to give Ports gear a useful set effect for some unknown reason.

Tier 115 Tank armor would have roughly 4600 Defense and 4500 LP bonus, making 90% of current boss mechanics a joke.
