Are you sure you weren't wearing the Mining Cape when this happened? The Mining Cape has a 5% chance to give an additional ore and this chance stacks with Honed allowing you to receive 3 ore in 1 swing.

If you really want to test it, try it at Gems. I have been at gems in Trah for a few days now with my Honed 5 pick and have never seen it Triple drop, which should theoretically occur once in every 100 gems. Gems are a good control to test because the Mining Cape does not work on them.

Another player and I tested out the mining cape and found that it was working at gems. I think somehow. Could be wrong. I will try again later today. I didn't even think about the cape and honed triggering simultaneously and that makes sense for the 3 ore in one swing. I can say that my opinion about E+S has changed lately and I think for everything that goes into it, it is still underwhelming.

The reason I brought up you can't use a luck ring in a set up to compare pickaxes is because it effects both (as in, it's boost is equal to each item, not counting augments on E&S). Factoring in augmentation, honed is decent, but it's not good enough to justify the different requirement for for gold and time investment, and the increased chance for geodes is decent.

Elder Rune Pick+5 Buy it from the GE

E&S Pick
All the time leveling all the prerequisite skills to do all of the quests, including combat skills and gold to get the combat equipment.
All of the time and millions of gp in items to level invention to get access to the items to get the best perks (augmenting E&S isn't worth it without max perks if we're honest here).
All of the time to get dust and gilded d pick for not one but 2 dragon pickaxes.

Even factoring in augments E&S is woefully underwhelming.

I hate quests. Always have, always will and this will (most likely) forever prevent me from obtaining a comp cape (or equivalent) which I'm more than happy to accept, cuz quests suck.

Before the rework, I literally (not exaggerating) had to do 17 quests to be able to create and use the Earth and Song pickaxe. It was awful, but I did it and took me 3 days of playing to complete them all.

Totally worth it, the extra ores plus geodes more than makes up for the effort I put into the quests. I notice a significant increase in both ores and geodes (igneous and metamorphic) over players that only use elder rune picks.

Plus, when used with a mining skillcape perk, you get even more XP over using an elder rune because of the bonus xp awarded when you get multiple ores.

While I would obviously appreciate the pick to be improved (because I own one) it's not really needed. One of the main points of the rework was not to limit/give extreme advantage to players that completed quests (hence all ores and levels of picks being obtainable without completing any quests); which I wholeheartedly support.

No support. It's fine as-is.

They recently removed a huge quest requirement from While Guthix Sleeps (the 270 QP is gone). It does admittedly still require a handful of quests. I recently completed Forgettable Tale... -> Birthright on an alt. It wasn't that bad, didn't take as long as I remember. As far as the Imcamdo parts, hopping worlds for 10 minutes and then 21 minutes for a Nymph after getting the golden outfit = 31 dedicated minutes after quests. Admittedly, getting harmonic dust for the crystal pickaxe is not great. Now compare all of that (from scratch) to getting 90 smithing (from scratch). Personally I'd do the quests any day of the week, but those of you who hate quests probably wouldn't.

Despite all that, the issue here is not anything above, it's the cost of materials. The problem with the suggestion is the fact that an Earth and Song costs TWO dragon pickaxes.

IF they added a passive to the Earth and Song, it would be MANDATORY that it does NOT work while it is in the toolbelt. If the passive works while in the toolbelt, it becomes BiS for both an augmented pickaxe (wielded) and BiS for the toolbelt. This in turn will result in a number of people seeking out a second one, because it is better than the Elder +5 in the toolbelt. Given the supply of dragon pickaxes in game as it is, this change would drive up the cost of dragon pickaxes significantly enough that it could become unreasonable to access the item for a lot of players, unreasonable to access their first one because someone else with $$$$$ is willing to fork over $$$ for a second one.

I can support a passive being added to the E & S, but ONLY if the passive does NOT work while in the toolbelt, and would have to be minor. Keep in mind, WGS and Plagues end have other rewards, so you're not doing all of those quests just for this pickaxe, so saying that they are part of the down payment is ridiculous. The dwarf quests... I'll accept that.

That's fair. I think it would be fairly straight forward for them. Make it so E&S gives a passive buff only when equipped in the weapon slot.

I'm not asking for anything huge. Something as simple as a reduced drain rate on stamina per swing would be fantastic. Or, much like an auto-heater for smithing, the E&S automatically restores you to 25% stamina when running out.

Something that makes the pickaxe have magical properties. It SHOULD have magical properties. It's just really freaking weird that a combined crystal pickaxe and imcando pickaxe wouldn't have a base magic effect, such as one of the two I listed above.
