The Forever Flames

___________________________

The flames of hell danced like Auspahs inside irises that could incinerate a man with a frown or compliment a smile that ignited hearts. These infernal gems cast downward to their clutch; a ragtag collection of defiant souls who, if not in life, then in death clawed out bloodied semicolons in the history book of Existence. A lionhearted pride of people who refused to dwell in afterlives that were tantamount to imaginary, who refuted oblivion and remained coherent atop Bridge Noumenon. People who likely had willpower so strong they could throttle the ether of the universe and choke their enemies with it. But this was all they had. Willpower. The rest of their efficacy was stolen by whom they quickly came to know as charlatans; the raggedy floofing skeleton named Death and the ascendant mutt named Icthlarin. Agents of a cruel cycle that cursed people with minds that always lasted longer than their bodies. They left no swords, no magic, no prayers, and no tricks. All that remained were the clothes upon these forsaken peoples' back when they died and their innermost flame that never could be snuffed out.

Until now.

Salvation was finally here.

"You have held on for so long,"
A whispering voice as sweet as strawberry shortcake on Valentine's from your beloved began.
"Your resolve is stronger than orikalkum. More beautiful than hydrix. Are you ready?"
The soothsayer and the clutch were all on their knees amid the shadows cast by the Underworld mountain, hidden and quiet from Icthlarin and his own flock that were crossing the bridge. His barked orders fell on deaf and terrified ears as Amascut's beasts tore them asunder. There were simply too many this time. These infiltrations were always planned in time with the voyages across the bridge. The jackal's wrath was no easy thing to deal with.

The defiant looked back to those and what they had to leave behind. A number of them had forgotten just what the land of the living was like. What did fresh air smell like? What did grass under feet feel like? What was pain? To come back was as scary as dying, but they knew they had enough of death. Their hands trembled but they looked back to their new leader and trusted them so.

But plenty of others still lingered further on down the way. Those who were once defiant and perhaps still were, but time still passed even down here. Seconds turned to years turned to milleniums and what were once lively people were now comatose minds wandering without rhyme or reason. They weren't even sentient anymore. Once upon a time they were, though. And they were loved so very much. Their minds were gone but their lovely faces still there were still missed. Never to see them again, others wept and their new leader wept with them. The Archon wept with sorrow darker than Noumenon's depths. They always did every time they came down here. Their own beloved was down there with the rest. Mindless and with a face as beautiful in death as it was in life. Maybe, one day, her mind would return to her. they checked every time and broke their heart every time. They had been too late to save her...but never again would they be too late to save another.

"MAEDALAANE!!!" Bellowed out the angered Icthlarin from far down the bridge that he was returning from. His keen eyes found the savior and their new clutch whom all overstayed their welcome. The instant adrenaline turned the leader's scowl into a maniacal smile, pearly fangs flashing and serpent tongue licking at tears that had fallen to their lips.

"Hear that? The thief will know what he loses this time. Is it not grand?!"
Maedalaane clapped their hands together and they all vanished from the plane. The new clutch was hatched. Born again. Their death was no more.

The Army of Armies

_________________

That's it!

Inspiration struck the Archon harder than the knocked over teacup shattered against the floor. The scalding hot blueberry acai mix that spilled on their leg was shaken off in an instant by a furious sprint for the manor's archive. The slap of feet against marble tiles echoed out as quick and almost as loud as gunshots but their mind raced faster yet in the wake of an epiphany.

"Everyone leaves behind Anima memories,"
They had to articulate any resemblance of coherence through their mouth, the mental whirlwind of cacophonic ideas too fast otherwise. Though they stood before the rather bereft shelf for texts on Divination, something told them that they didn't need any research on this. Indeed, they knew it all already. This was only putting the pieces together...in a very interesting way. It wasn't the way that this puzzle was meant to be assembled, but a pleasing picture was still made clear all the same.
"Everyone. Human babes. Gods. These wisps lingering in the ether of reality have become as background sensory input, like...wind...to the eyes of a common Diviner. Most of them minuscule as if specks of dust wavering around."

To have them actually become noticeable was to become aware of your breathing, to notice the clothes on your back, to feel your tongue in your mouth. No one ever thought of these things unless prompted. The Archon blinked and focused in on the dozens of memories that floating in the room. Almost all of them their own. They felt like so and they had their aura's color as well.

"But the best Diviners can begin to sift if they have an auric signature to compare to. Pick out that face from the metaphorical crowd. The best can experience even the most tribulus of memories. The best can hunt down all the secrets of their target."

They sauntered with leisure to the manor's workshop, opposite of how they ascended to the archives. They let their thoughts gently coalesce now that they knew where they were going. In the workshop they bent down to crates full of divine energy.

"But The Reclaimed are not the best Diviners. They are strong in all their own ways. But not master Diviners."
For master Diviners were not easy people to slay, nevermind hard to find. Just when you think you'd have them, they regenerate and now you're bleeding. The best defense is a good offense. If this army had that advantage, then they'd have never been dead. The Archon giggled with excitement as they pulled the lid off a crate.

"But what attunes to memories? Energies. What's made from energies? Simulacrums. Whom could experience memories as though they were their own? People in simulacrums. Hahaaaaah..."

An army with enough resolve to defy death. An army...that could have first hand experience of all the world's conflicts from the eyes of countless soldiers. An army that would experience the God Wars, the Elven Civil War, The Sanguinesti War, the Quin Conflicts, and everything else. An army afforded millenniums of battle knowledge.

Super Soldiers.

But, gods damn. More than a few Diviners would be needed. They would need plenty of Secret Seekers.

Preface

ôThat is not dead which can eternal lie,
and with strange aeons even death may die.ö

This was a quest you took on your own volition. Sure, it was this or rot for who knows how much longer on that bridge, but that doesn't matter. You were given a choice and you made a decision. You chose life. You chose to come back into this world rather than frolic in ignorance in the fields of your Afterlife, rather than sit in a corner for eternity. No one forced you into this. Maybe a Zamorakian game of thrones would have been more fun than this, maybe Serenist choirs lulling you to sleep every imaginary night would have been more lovely than this. But this is real, and so the stipulations hardly matter...do they?

Don't worry. They brought you back to make you stronger so you could make the world stronger. Remember the old adage, "No pain no gain", whenever you're hurt and you have to hurt other people.

This is a different kind of tale. An irreverent tale that does not even respect the dead. It jerks old tomes from dusty shelves, cleans them up, and defaces them.

The dearly departed will become dearly returned, not as abominations or echoes of whom they had been/ But for what purpose? To what end? The ones responsible for this didn't go through all of this trouble out of unconditional altruism nor with the intent of the world's greatest undead army. This isn't undeath. This is NuLife.
The purpose of life is finding the largest burden that you can bear and then indeed bearing it.

Joining

You want to join? Good, because I want you to join. <3

This plot is open to all sorts of characters. Necromancers, Diviners, dead people, opposers. A lot. You can probably see where things are going and you probably have a good sense of discretion. Whatever character you want to use, they'll probably fit in somehow. Just give a few details for reference's sake.

Original message details are unavailable.
Character name:

Race:

Age:

Brief physical description:

(Optional: Portrait):

Brief background:

Timezone:

Additionally, completion of the quest "Impressing the Locals" is needed. It doesn't have any requirements so don't worry. Preferably, you've simply done a lot of quests because a lot of cool places in game are unlocked through quests but if your account is low level we'll still make it work.
