As Duchess of Sarim, it is my royal decree that all criminals at sea, commanding or serving (or intending to serve) upon a seaworthy ship, shall be granted safe harbor and trade within the Port of Sarim. All crimes, no matter how heinous, shall be forgiven and all past slights overlooked on grounds that,

I: Chiefly, they take an oath to their God that they shall repent and repeat none of their crimes while within the hallowed borders of Asgarnia. For the sake of their immortal souls, the Duchess will grant them mercy.

II: Any who would continue to captain their vessel officially announce their intent to serve as privateers of the Asgarnian Navy.

-Ashley Gremoire, Duchess of Sarim

Are we made to serve the law, or is the law made to serve us? Which is lawful in thine eyes? To do good, or to do evil? To save life, or destroy it? And for those who do evil, what redemption is there? What is forgiveness, if it is reserved only for those without sin? Does it not say that the love of Saradomin is ever-forgiving? Mercy is there, for those who seek mercy. Be merciful, as he is merciful, and forgive those who beg forgiveness. What merit is there in loving those who already love you? Even sinners can boast to this. Rather, love those who are your enemies, and do good to them. Give, without expectation, and your reward shall be great.

Issuing her first, official decree, a letter of marque found its way to every rum-soaked boardwalk; Every port of ill intent. "Come," said the Duchess, "I offer forgiveness." But most importantly, she offered opportunity. Greed was a powerful motivator. Safety, another. And when the two meet, they yield something any man can understand; Survival. All they needed to do, was sign their name.

I do hereby renounce my past villainous deeds, and shall adhere to Her Grace's wishes to cease all criminal action while within Asgarnia's borders in exchange for safe harbor in Port Sarim. I reserve the right to any bounty taken from enemy vessels, to extend the Duchess' decree to any man willing to serve aboard my own, and to duel fairly if my honor has been grievously insulted. Hereby, I shall be known as Captain _________ of the HMS _________, in service to Ashley's Privateers, the King of Asgarnia, and their allies.

As Duchess of Sarim, I hereby lift any embargo on Karamjan spirits, narcotics, and spices within my borders, provided that an import tax is paid before unloading the cargo. Foreign merchants may not sell the aforementioned wares within my domain without possession of a Rum License, which I may provide for a yearly fee. Shopkeepers native to Sarim (or those deemed loyal to the Duchess as such they may be considered so) need not apply for a Rum License if they can provide undeniable family history. If they are found to be in league with a foreign merchant in order to supersede the required license, their right to such trade may be revoked, their wares confiscated, and if the offense is found to be particularly grievous, may lose any assets obtained prior to the stated offense. Those found to be smuggling these exotic wares into Sarim without paying the import tax will have said wares seized by the authorities, but otherwise, no further judicial action shall be taken against the offenders, and they will be released to go about their business.

@Ash,

Person running the bar: Ezekiel Lemieux

Short bio: Originally from a noble house in Edgeville. Now well into his 40's, Ezekiel wanted something extra, and calmer out of life. Over the years he's performed many heroic deeds in Arenvale, Misthalin, Asgarnia and Morytania. Now, he's an on and off adventurer, wanting something more, so he dediced that he wants to run a bar, not because he's having a midlife crisis. He actually needs some stable income.

Name of the bar: The Rusty Anchor, Port Sarim

Serving: Avarage menu items with nothing much fancy about them, plus a few eastern imported spirits I'll be working on. He's not concidering imports from Karamja in the slightest bit.

What he's willing to do for it: Meeting, buying the building, renting the building, sending a letter, filling in forms, whatever really, it's not like he is a poor man.

The Duchess looked over the application. "A bar?" she murmured.

"Often a stop for pirates. Port security hasn't been the best.."

"Ai. Ai, I know," she nodded, reclining in her chair. "Es not a problem now, t'ough. T'ey 'ave released any prisoners jailed under t'e old law?"

"Yes, Your Grace."

"So you are familiar wit' t'is place, t'en? Hm..." Her gaze fell to the paper once more. "I want 'im to sell t'e Karamjan wares. Es my only condition. I will 'and management over to 'im."

"He doesn't want to pay for the license, Your Grace."

"Non! Es okay? I will approve it myself!" Her gaze narrowed. "But 'e will sell t'em..." The Duchess stamped the papers and handed them to her advisor, the signature read:

Approved on the condition the party accepts this Rum License, good for one year at no cost to the recipient. There are a few specific herbs and intoxicants I want you to provide to strengthen moral. -A.G.

I'm sorry, madame. You escaped me so suddenly, that day, after reading that list of demands from the people. I wish you could know how sincere I was in providing audience; I ignored a King, I am told, I was so engrossed. But now, you leave me no choice. I had thought that the answers I gave would quell any fear, any doubt in your heart. Now, you cannot even hear me. Now, I can only assume your eyes are blinded by hate, and perhaps you are not unjustified in your anger. But I am not the source of your sorrow.

I had hoped to bring you joy...

In light of the violence in Rimmington, I would implore any and all dissidents of the current regime to consider the weakened state of Asgarnia before further gnawing at the foundations of an already fractured kingdom hoping to repel their foes. Such plans, rather than liberating, will only serve to further entrench your people in slavery and serfdom. While the nation resettles, we require cooperation to reroute assets to the proper hands with as little bloodshed as possible. Asgarnia belongs to Her people. Her taxes, Her resources, and most certainly Her people, shall no longer serve the continued conquest and exploits of a foreign lord. To all who would remain loyal to Asgarnia, I beseech you, do not consider what you may do to harm your enemy; Rather what you may do to help your kinsmen.

Simply put, a house divided cannot stand. Know, any who stand against me, stand against Sarim's best interests. As of this moment, I have liquidated every royal asset in the form of precious metals, gems, silks, and other finery. If I could, I would sell this estate. These are not mine. They are yours. And I will not see these gifts put to work for such things as sedition against the realm, in this, Her time of need.

Your Majesty,

With Sarim's forces limited to trading and fishing vessels, that leaves the White Knights. I believe the main (and most substantial) chapter is unwilling to engage in warfare with forces beyond Asgarnia. Kandarin, while not directly threatening the peace, has led to the decay of infrastructure and the current state of affairs. While it may very well require the White Knights' intervention to secure peace for our citizens, I believe they may be willing to take measures that directly counter the overall power and autonomy of the realm. They are, after all, devoted to a god, and an ideal; Not a nation. If they did play a more prominent role in liberating Asgarnia, I guarantee they would eventually seek to purify the land of anyone not meeting their high, specifically Saradominist standards. Thus, we must turn to alternative means of dealing with the empire.

As you already know, privateering will serve as the backbone of our Navy. As our eastern neighbors are prime targets for piracy, we will simply forgive and harbor their criminal population, taking them into the Asgarnian fold in exchange for their inevitable "services", as well as offering payment for more coordinated efforts, thanks to income from the recent Rum License Act, to serve alongside the few combat-ready vessels we do have...

The letter continues...

Rustling of the pages...

Currently I am probing alternative means of putting boots on the ground, so to speak. Hobgoblins are highly capable skirmishers, best used for hit-and-run tactics. Destroying enemy supply routes, depots, and roads, and harassing marching formations in order to slow them down or divert them, rather than directly engaging, are suggested. Since they reproduce quickly, I find them to be very much akin to goblins, with one remarkable exception; A distinct lack of cowardice. Capable of foraging on the enemy (literally, as I've directly observed them eating slain opponents), in ways and conditions that most humans are incapable of, or unwilling to do, I believe they will outlast any human forces in the wild. All it would require is a strong, singular presence to command them, with a suggested ratio of one to every hundred, in terms of capable men commanding these beasts. As they are naturally submissive to the most dominant individual, they may even be trusted to return of their own volition. I believe the Bandosians called this a "warparty".

A dragon, roosting at the peak of the white castle. She'd seen and heard the reports. Most of it was peasant talk.

It swooped down and burned my house to the ground!
It scorched my crops.
It devoured my family!

"Peasants..." Ashley hissed, casting a cruel, hateful stare toward Rimmington. From atop the Maze, her red eyes seemed to peer into the distance, as though she could see the beast's sharp gaze occasionally settle upon the Duchy. "Filt'y beast... es an insult to everyt'ing I 'ave worked toward. A reminder. Make no mistake, Jon: He knows w'at I intend to do. He simply allows it, for now. An' so we mus' play a game of foresight..."

"Surely one man couldn't be so well informed."

"Are you a spy?" she asked, glancing over her shoulder toward him.

"No, Your Grace," her guard replied.

"Ai. Because you 'ave my blood. An' furt'ermore, because you are not Jeoffrey. He would never send a man to do w'at he 'imself enjoys; To joyfully milk fear from t'e udder of 'uman frailty- Ahhgh!" Ashley pounded her fist against the stone battlements of the compound. "He would. He would!!" she growled softly. "Peasants..."

After long hours spent away from Falador, the King had sent for the Duchess. Meeting her in her old abandoned manor, they spoke for some time, with the following being only the conclusion.

"...If I go around makin' people do shit, it wont stick around when I get bored an' leave. It ain't stabilized if it needs me pokin' my head in to make sure the kids play nice. And-" He paused. A rather sudden one, his head only barely turned, but she could see the start of a snarl taking his expression. Pushing himself to his feet, "Yer a fan of my dragon, ain't ya?" His cold glare directed her way, "How'd ya like a closer look." Midway through her response, she'd feel the ground quake from the beast landing outside.

Ashley drew a deep breath and crossed her arms once more. "I fear beasts of all kinds despise me. I've never 'ad a pet for t'is very reason; You could say t'at I am jealous, per'aps?" Exhale. Inhale. Here came the razor's edge. "You expect ad'erence en your absence? Over boredom?" Ashley widened her stance, just a bit, still gazing up at him, directly now. It was bold-stupid maybe-but bold nonetheless. There was quite often a strangely masculine air about the Duchess of Sarim. "Try war."

Jeoffrey barely responded: "I have."

Even then, a chill ran down her spine.

The Duchess shook her head. "If we ever find ourselves seated opposite to each ot'er, I swear to you: I will not break t'is vow. Even en war." She followed after the King. Eyeing his hands. His actions. Trying to read this man. She'd not expected him to exit so swiftly, but then, who would want to stay in such an ugly, drab excuse for a palace? For all her supposed love of wealth and finery, Ashley Gremoire surrounded herself with misery at every step. Dark. Dismal. Utter ruin. Even now, with the commotion outside, they could hear the howls of blood-addled creatures in the caves below, where her gruesome experiments took place. But she forgot that Jeoffrey was most at home in the slums. The dangerous back-alleys. The dusty cellars where men dealt in whispers of evil deeds yet to unfold. Oh, she forgot much, in her carefully timed misstep. Still, "You know t'e game well. You know it. An' w'ile I doubt t'at you will ever tire of winning, I t'ink you 'ave grown bored. Not of winning, no, no" she chuckled, "Ahhh... you 'ave grown bored of winning so easily." The Duchess' eyes darkened. And as the King departed. As the dragon's black wings cast a shadow over the farmland, she quietly called out to him:

"I will not be so easy..."

I find dragons and, really, any power gimmick, to be just that; A gimmick. It's backdrop and flash to make a plot line look more interesting. It's nothing but a prop for RP. See, over the years of RP, across so many different settings and platforms, I've had mages just cast a spell, and because it's something that just "affects" your character's personal space, you're pretty much doomed.

A dragon? With melee or ranged attack? That I could tangibly measure and react to? On even the barest level of physical probability? No problem! I'll take it. I've personally dealt with too many magic-based characters and they all come out swingin' with that classic, "Well unless you have the right magic you just can't do anything!" post. So I have no concerns about dragons. Or hey? Even powerful mages.

The sad fact of the matter is, magic has become a crutch because it follows absolutely no physical logic in RP. Yes, the mechanics of the game are balanced, as best as they can be, but in RP? Mages. Mages, mages, everywhere. Your empire was backed by magic. You are a mage. Your friends are mages. You are surrounded by magic.

But one does not have to engage with such magical tyrants. They rule a land. So destroy the land. All it takes to bring a kingdom to its knees? Is to mangle its assets. Burn every crop. Murder every peasant. Sew chaos and discord until the realm is nothing more than a scorched, barren wasteland. And all it takes is a little tinder. Some plague-infested corpses. Some lawless pirates. Breeding and encouraging the exploding goblin population to engage in banditry. It's called total war.

Hate to tell you, Eeon, but most of the OOC outrage comes from the players' personal issues, completely unrelated to RP. I won't go into detail, as I feel that would be slander on some level, but you'll notice many posts were deleted, a few pages back, because instead of looking at anything my character was doing or saying, they complained about her pink hair and generally cute appearance, which is something intentionally cultivated to put foes at ease and throw suspicion. And it works a little too well. Everyone seems to think she (and I, by extension) are complete morons.

I don't understand. You seem to be complaining about the substance of an entire character and plot line, with the intention that, unless that character and this plot line cease, you will not join or acknowledge it. Which is fine. I have nothing against that, but at this point I see three things in RS lore that have been heavily referenced:

1: Dragons
2: Undead
3: Necromancy

And while your group may have made both of these a no-go, I fail to see how this is a lorebreak. Vampyres are also made no-go by many groups. I'm quite sure some players I've engaged with in Glorious Kandarin actually said this to me. Or told me this, or that, while perfectly within lore, is just not kosher for some reason or another. But you know what it takes to kill someone? Smashing their head in while they sleep.

Is a dragon OP? Are wights? Sure, why not. But you are, and I've said this before, and was promptly ignored, OP, Vekon. Your entire lineage is OP. Your entire group is littered with OP. Your family is OP, and not necessarily a lorebreak, now, is it? I'm glad we can agree on that. But the RP is not going to change. The players involved are not going to change. And the characters are not going to change. These three things, which you have taken issue with, are not changing. So the answer is a resounding no.

Please take any issues not related to current plots or characters involved in the kingdom to another thread.

Why do you care? You're not interacting with anyone here on principle. You've literally decided to disregard every decision made here. Barring the fact that you do not understand a single shred of what I just said, there still stands the issue of your completely pointless presence in this thread. Either you are here to interact, and have valid points, or you are not, and don't. And it looks like you don't. Have valid points that is. As I've said, you can only have two possible issues regarding the dragon and necromancy:

It is lorebreak, which is decidedly not true.

It is OP, which you yourself have now admitted NEVER crossed your mind. So there goes that point out the window, unless you'd like to contradict yourself. So, you and your friend, let's settle that former issue:

It is lorebreak.

No it's not.

I think that settles everything.

I'm sorry, is that exactly what you were at one point? Why would the White Knights stand for a largely Zarosian Empire on their lands. Unless your point is that Asgarnia's Saradominist forces are weakened. Which I completely agree with. They're severely weakened. So much that evil forces have taken over. At least, evil in their eyes. It's almost as if nothing has changed, but I'm almost certain that exact same point was brought up, which is why I think you're the one who's confused, right now.

My Temple Knight character is actively opposed to this regime and investigating the Duchess, currently. And no, I'm not particularly invested in either side. I'm happy to see either outcome, be it the white knights being crushed by an occupying evil, or said evil flying too close to the sun and falling.

It seems as if you're the one with bias, here, considering you have, for who knows how many times, ignored the fact that your empire is largely anti-Saradominist, and I've experienced this sentiment in-game while RPing with your friends. You probably don't even realize how long I've been here and the things I've witnessed, all at the hands of people in Glorious Kandarin, which was the first W42 clan I was ever invited to! Do you realize how you sound, right now? To me?

While Imperial assets have been seized, it has made it clear to all merchants abroad that any contracts held with the Empire are recognized by the Duchess, with a 5% bonus increase from any shares that would have gone to either the Empire or the new regime. These are primarily agricultural and fishing contracts, with some mining and crafting as well. That said, several unconventional assets from the war have been retained and capitalized upon, with no intention of abandoning, including the ice cave at the southern peninsula, and the grotworm cave.

The Duchess also made a new decree, concerning the goblin populations both local and abroad. The implications of her statement seem to imply a degree of amnesty provided to any bandits, thieves, and the like, as Her Grace has stated:

"It is not merely the goblins who suffer the inhumane act of being relegated to pests and monsters. The trolls, ogres, and many others have been demonized for past actions, and though such complaints may be valid in the eyes of history, I see people in need of kindness and compassion, who for too long have been the target of exploitation by forces beyond their capacity to resist. All crimes forgiven, and sanctuary afforded to all non-human criminals from beyond Sarim's border; Those serving time within shall be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
