As the title suggests, this is an interest check.

What I was thinking of doing was getting a group of 5-10 (it doesn't have to be massive) people together for casual and/or plot-based RP. This group consists of essentially travellers and adventurers, hence they can go wherever near enough - allowing for an array of different RPs and experiences. It doesn't even have to be a constant group as it's fairly possible people would drift in and out of the group. In hopes that this could help revitalize freelance, participants from outside the group are heavily encouraged - or maybe even make your own!

Anyway: point is, is anyone interested in this sort of thing?

I've always liked this sort of thing. The quintessential band of heroes, wanderers, what have you, provides solid grounds for a variety of roleplays. I know for a fact that there is a desire for this sort of role-play, but the question is how to pull people in, how to entice those in the outskirts of the community. To be honest, little bands like these exist. In fact, I think they're prevalent. The problem is quite a lot of the role-players in them avoid the old freelance hotspots because they are seemingly tainted by toxic interactions from POKs (the usual suspect), melodrama, and general petty disagreements.

I think the drifting nature of this idea is wonderful. However, there would need to be some sort of reason for the character to show up in the first place (at least for me because I am not fond of metagaming even to find RP). Along the same lines, how would members of this group stay in contact, etc. I think these sort of questions are important to answer. In the end, I think a network of wanderers or some sort is a great idea. However, I don't think a base or some sort of HQ is the right answer to these problems.

Anyway, this is more me airing my thoughts than proposing solutions. I apologize if my two cents don't have a lot of purchasing power, but it's late, and I'm tired. I'm looking forward to what this thread brings.

@Zrie, I think a variety of concepts could web in- from a travelling band of traders/merchants, treasure hunters, etc etc. It could simply just be a guild of wanderers or vagrants, it's not awfully hard to come up with one- nor is it hard to come up with an excuse to join in.

It was a while since I last was in a RP, but something like this might get me back into it. I have been looking through the forums every now and then and this does seem interesting. I'll keep a look-out for further information, but if this thing takes off, I'll most likely join in.

Honestly, I think guilds have been done to death due to my frequent participation in them. It's fair to say it's a staple of our community and an alternative to POK-based role-play; I wouldn't see that change. However, I think the guild format- and especially the ranking system it typically places upon its members- limits the influence of the wonderful range of character's motivations. The following is my take on how in-character leadership should happen.

Don't get me wrong, I think an organization is a good idea (because how the hell would people learn about it), but I don't think it needs to be as grandiose and majestic as previous takes on this concept. I would love to see a vague group with an ever vaguer mission statement. The 'group' could have headquarters and offices in the different kingdoms. This would allow it to avoid regionalizing character interactions, decanonizing actions from W42 lore, or a number of other issues that have arisen from isolation in the past.

The headquarters in each area would be different chapters of the same organization, perhaps having a different credos or take on the broader statement. There would be a head of a chapter but beyond that all are equal. If your character has the resources to buy a building, there would be no restrictions about creating your own chapter.
