A small too long didn’t read for the non guide holders reading this post intended for the host:

This thread feels super repetitive and is basically constantly hammering down on the do’s and don’ts of roleplay over and over again, just in a different wording. It needs to severely cut down on all the constant stressing of certain things over and over again. The thread also contains a lot of questionable content that I think should be put to a community discussion. Below I will state what I got out of this guide for now, feel free to talk about this in a civilised manner keeping in mind this is about the guide content and not the current host of this sticky.

Inconsistencies and odd placements

Post 5 talks about lorebreaking being a gray area and that we do so all the time with player owned kingdoms and many smaller bits of lore to get the most out of the game. But it mentions nowhere the don’ts of breaking lore. This bit reads more like the do’s of lorebending rather than telling people not to make their characters be NPC’s from this game, characters from other games, history or series or about making things happen that clash with the lore of Jagex. Lorebending already has a mention on page 1 post 10, where lorebreaking is explained too.

Post 5, 6 and 7 start with mostly a bunch of don’ts and are then followed by a small bit of do’s. I think it is better to start with a good tone and switch the two around.

Post 3 links to The Ultimate Catch-Up Guide , a thread designed for old players coming back and reading up on what happens in the Player owned kingdoms. Your post says ‘How do you roleplay’ and literally nowhere on this thread helps in that matter. I suggest linking the Quick Guide to In-Game RP here instead and giving the Catch-Up Guide a post of its own. Perhaps Syncreticeye can help write a short summary for the purpose of his thread to be included in this guide.

Post 7 reads ‘as mentioned with blacklists but this is the first time they are brought up. Reader is left in the dark as to what they are till they find it mentioned again on page 2 post 3 at the bottom. There it reads they are not allowed, unless a requirement is met and even then it advices to simply ignore people. Weirdly enough they also listed under the do’s section of post 7. This needs clearing up.

Page 2 post 2 mentions character death as part of the basics of roleplay. Why is this not part of the extended guide? The section itself seems odd on itself because it reads like a way too brief bit of lore about death. This hardly covers your options when something bad happens to a character. I was close to adding this to removable content but I think it can be salvaged.

Page 2 post 8 mentions Ask before you kill. This has already been explained before as something that has emerged into the community as the Character Death Courtesy on page 2 post 3. How can something that has emerged into the community, be considered an unofficial rule? If it is broadly accepted as the way to go, why not list it under do’s on page 1 post 7.

Removable content
Page 2 post 6 mentions events in roleplay. Nobody uses this and it serves absolutely no purpose. The guide that Syncreticeye holds would make a much better replacement than this whole lot of nothing.

Page 2 post 8 seems to read rather repetitive of the fact that being courteous will get you more appreciated by the community. It seems that due to you mixing this heavily with the do’s and don’t section, it could do with a full removal so that those do’s and don’ts get more space to be expanded with the noteworthy things mentioned.

Page 3 post 1 mentions Right to choose but this is basically going about the same thing as before, which is blacklisting and making sure toxic people stay out of your roleplays. The fact that it is also finally being mentioned as a last-option choice is weird.

Page 3 post 5 mentions a set of two clichés and nothing more. There’s no reason to list out these two random types of roleplay here. Literally everything can be overdone at some point. What people find a cliché might also be rather personal. This post just seems either quite biased or just written badly enough to read as a salty jab to people wanting to roleplay the bad guys of roleplay. I think that this should just be another mention in your do’s and don’ts section.

Page 3 posts 7 till 10 have this Masochist Character Sheet on it. Not only does this piece of content show up before things like A note on how we do things, Tips, Mentors and Useful Threads, but it seems completely out of place to be included on this sticky guide. It’s reads like you are just building your own characters’ own clichés beforehand. It also lacks in consistency and is lacking in quality as compared to the rest of the sticky. Also doubtfully used as much as the creator intended, yet takes up a full 4 posts.

Page 4 posts 1 and 2 read as a repetition of trying to explain what is the public scene and how you roleplay in general. Either edit this out to be less so or add this information to the right bits of information. Also post 2 seems like a bit of a jab that is not at place on a sticky guide. Not everyone is disappointed.

Questionable content

Post 7 mentions to take action against rule breakers. What you are doing here is encouraging mob mentality to develop and it reads like a justification for a vocal minority or established clique to get their way.

Page 2 post 9 mentions the Private is Private section. Players often like to argue about what is a private roleplay, group or a plot and what is are the public ones. I know this has been done to bits, but the example of your own character is the one I will use due to it being the most recent example I could fit into the one you put in the guide. Your character has discovered a way to control an undead dragon. There’s people that say that it is private roleplay or that the plot in which that power was achieved was rather private, but either way you say it was a public roleplay. Who deems what should not be used in public roleplay? It’s actually quite twisted to talk about being courteous but to also go ‘but if you do want to start a dispute over your private things being public scene worthy there is no stopping you because these rules are optional to follow’.

Page 4 post 5 starts as tips, only to point people off-site to roleplay. These hardly feel like actual tips and feel more like they should be rephrased as off-site media that help you get better involved with roleplay. Also seems to rephrase another encouragement of ‘as long as your clique screams loudest you are the one that is correct’ again in the last line.

Page 4 post 6 mentions mentors but it mentions nowhere as to what ‘extensive inactivity’ really is. Why do you get to decide who gets put on the mentor list, something part of a Jagex acknowledged sticky thread at constant display? Why shouldn’t old veteran players with some years behind them and some ties here and there to the community not be allowed to help new players get a footing in roleplay? I think it would be better if this rule was either dropped or explained upon because right now it just reads like a hall-of-fame to show you were the last one standing. Where there even any other mentors to begin with?

Lacking in content
Wiki gets one brief mention in the first post with a full link. After that you get it mentioned on page 4 post 5 in the Tips section as a google suggestion. If it is mentioned in the very first bit of the guide it must be important enough get a better mention in the guide itself. I suggest for the wiki admin still active in RP, Void, to write up a brief summary of what the wiki is and what it can offer roleplayers as an off-site thing for RSRP.

Page 2 post 7 talks about extended guides. I think the Khaine Guides should be bundled into one big thread firstly. Also his guide on Magic is missing. The Gielinorian Metals one is outdated too, perhaps the community can write a new one? Also there are a few more guides out there that could be linked here to fill out the list like the ones mentioned before, the one on vampyres and injuries too for example.

Page 2 post 10 should specify that racism based on someone’s skin colour is not a lore thing, but right now it excludes things like Kinshra, vampyres and H.A.M. altogether.

Small summary
- Remove a lot of repetitive content
- More attention to the work of the RS RP Wiki
- Make sure this is up to standards when compared to the other two guides
- Have a good discussion about the questionable content of this incarnation of the guide
- Propose changes for how this guide can achieve this all as a community

I hope this helps. I'll read through this guide another time and hopefully will find my own way of trying to improve the community guide. Hope to hear some stuff other folks have to say about my findings too!

I'm definitely capable of it, yes. But just like how I'm not hosting the guide on an alt, you shouldn't be using one to present your suggestions, especially knowing what else you've been up to on the forums. :) The True Asgarnia -
