Hi everyone,

Just a very short message to let you know we have updated the website logins to be branded for both RuneScape & Old School.*

There's no functionality changes, just what you see as you try to login.

Any feedback please do post below and I'll do my best to answer questions / pass it on.

Thanks,
Mod Lyon

*For the majority of instances, some routes (pressing login on the top right of the RuneScape & Old School websites) will retain the old styles.

Dual-branded

Old School

RS3

I must admit I do love the background on the dual-branded screen. It's good to see Tim and Crunchy make their return into RuneScape branding. :)

For me, the update is stressing me out each time I'm looking at the page. There are two very distinct/different art styles being mixed up as a first point, and I feel like there is too much being clogged up with too few breathing spaces.

There is also a big imbalance between the weights of each side by design. There is a lot more distraction and happening in the left side, opposed to the right and cleaner side.

While the "old school" Tim and Crunchy are nice retrospectively, they don't match the current RuneScape branding anymore, especially next to the more slim and cleaner designs from Jagex anno 2018, to which it sits next to.

If there has to be a split design like we currently got I'd prefer to either see one of the "old" arts used on the login pages for Oldschool or maybe a new version of the Tim and Crunchy wallpaper to the design principles of 2018.

Or if there is any time available for functionality work, another solution could also be to look up with maybe sessions or GET variables where the user came from (either OSRS or RS3) and thematically style the login page.

I think the old login pages partially worked like this based on the URL parameters. :)

loginform?theme=runescape
loginform?theme=oldschool

This happens now, as you mentioned with the theme parameter. If you click the 'Log In' link on the RuneScape or Old School website, you will be sent to the relevant game branded login. For places where a user may be coming from RuneScape or Old School, we display the dual branded login pages.

I like it, simple and functional.

Any plans to introduce this design style to some other parts of the website?

That depends entirely on the page. Things like account creation makes sense, other areas might be styled differently as appropriate. We plan to do the same with Account Creation in the future, but I don't have a date for that.

Looks great, the Tim and Crunchy one needs a full version though, would rather have that one for the oldschool login.

We needed new artwork for the Old School side as both the RuneScape & Old School logins use the right hand side of the page as their focus with the character. A fair point though, I'll pass that on as really it should remain consistent :)
