Been awhile since I've done much on the forums, and this will probably be something of a rant sorry, but this has been bothering me since well... the idea of quest prestige was first suggested and scraped. I always liked this idea and thought it had potential. For context, the original idea was that players could reset their progress on all quests and then replay all of them for titles/some kind of alteration to the appearance of the quest cape/high scores. This was one of the reasons I think the original idea was met with so much backlash.

The original idea wasn't really loved by people who don't adore quests for many reasons. I don't think it possible to get people who don't love quests to like this idea, but Jagex may be able to get them to tolerate it if they can address some of the player's concerns. Heres a short list of problems the original faced and solutions for them.

Problem: some players hate quests and hated the idea of being "forced" to replay them for comp cape stuff
Solution: Don't make quest prestige a comp req, or offer cosmetic rewards for it.

Problem: it was introduced alongside skill prestige which was a way worse idea, so people wrote off the benefits of quest prestige immediately
Solution: Don't suggest skill prestige.

Problem: resetting all your progress on quests could make your life difficult if you don't think it though, getting locked out of prif/losing buffs against bosses extra
Solution: I don't think this problem can be totally solved but it can be limited, players should have the option to permanently lock themselves out of being able to quest prestige (the same way that never letting Nastroth reset your stats works)

Problem: What happens to the players "canon" version of quests?
Solution: I think the easiest and best solution is to have the newest version become the canon version, this would give the players the option to change their choices in quests while still having those choices as weighty because it would take so long to replay everything and would allow quest nerds to see what a Zarosain/Bandosian/whatever playthrough looked like by playing it themselves.

I would love to hear how many other people think this would be a good idea and any other problems/solutions/benefits you can think up!

I guess that's everything, thanks for reading.

Edit: it would seem I have to make changes to this, for now, please read my response to Kohina it might be clearer about what I am trying to suggest than the first few posts I made, thanks.

I don't think there's a need to make quests competitive or have a hiscore for them. They're meant to be experiences to enhance immersion and gameplay, not for bragging rights or anything like that.

That being said, quest replayability is a really great idea, assuming Jagex ever decides to make it a thing. They've stated that it's very difficult to code in, unfortunately, and hardly anyone chose to replay Sliske's Endgame after it was made replayable. Assuming the ability to replay quests is released, there shouldn't be any major rewards - replaying the quest IS the reward. Cosmetics are fine, though.

Lastly, restarting a quest shouldn't have any effect on the quest point cape or completionist cake. There's already a few quests that can be replayed (DoD, Broken Home, Endgame) and you're able to wear said capes while replaying them.

This is disheartening, I wasn't AT ALL suggesting or implying they "make quests competitive", was that not clear? If so then I really need to rewrite this... Well if you read this again please let me know what gave you that impression so I can fix it.

The point of this thread is that while making any given quest replayable is really difficult, it would be quite easy to implement a method that restarts all quests back to 0% done. This was the idea behind quest prestige. Unfortunately, this easy to implement method has some serious drawbacks, in that this would literally be making it as if you never did those quests so any and all benefits for them such as comp cape/locations/ items would be removed/inaccessible until you re-complte the quests. If there is a way *not* to have that drawback it would probably make implementing quest replayability really difficult. Which is why I am suggesting they implement this drastic but easy method for people who love quests that much.

Please let me know what you think of this.

Also, HI KOHINA!

Sorry. I must have read the part about quests not having a hiscore too fast.

If players want to reset quests and lose access to rewards from said quests, then I suppose they should be free to do so. They know the consequences, after all. It's an entirely optional choice, and, without any hiscore or competitive aspect, one that doesn't give any advantages against other players, either. Which is good.

The other point is whether adding the reset ability is worth Jagex's time. They have a lot of other projects and content to work on, each taking significant amounts of time and effort to code, and looking at how few players bothered replaying Endgame, it may not even be worth the effort to add such an option if no one ends up using it. Personally, I wouldn't reset any quests if they added the option to do so, even though I think quests are some of the best parts of the game. I'd be unable to use a lot of staple quest rewards like the Max Guild for a pretty long period of time, and the sheer inconvenience of not having a reward like that disincentivizes me from resetting. I'd rather Jagex work on content players will frequently use, since that's time well spent coding it.

There's also the question if Jagex actually can add an option to reset quests with your suggestions in mind. The game's mostly made of spaghetti, and while they could have added the option back during the time of the poll, that was a few years ago and the game's changed a lot since then. Who knows how resetting quests will affect other parts of the code and whether it's feasible to add it or not?

I apologize if I sound rude in any way. I'm just rambling my thoughts as they come to mind.
I hope you find my response helpful!

I would love this,
however it would require a bit of work, because that would mean resetting numerous switches and deletion of quest-items.

A second note is that they have said that they are much less likely to do it, because during the Vampyre beta ages ago, less than 10 people replayed the quests, and only a handful have replayed Sliske's Endgame to date.

^I would like to note, however, that I think both of those examples are poor data samples. Given the difficulty and annoyance of Endgame (I enjoyed it), and Beta's being beta's. I still haven't replayed Endgame yet, but that's only because I haven't gotten mentally prepared to go back in there, because it's so long. But if they did something like TWW, and added the rest of the Zilyana/Juna/Azzanadra's gift outfit and a small xp lamp, I'd do that on my next free weekend.
