For a species as genetically diverse as the Children of Mah, and just how different Khazard is from Palkeera (for one, he's a guy), we can definitely rule out a one-person conception.

Zemouregal's notes pretty much confirm that Khazard was not the first Mahjarrat born on Gielinor, as Zemouregal doesn't say that there's anything unusual about his presence.
You never were our brightest star, Khazard. 'Vermin slaughtered like lambs'? What does that even mean?

Genetically diverse? They're shapeshifters. Physical appearance isn't exactly the best trait to go off of. Based on Kharshai's dialogue near the end of Koschei's troubles, Mahjarrat appearance is more based off of personality and those you associate with than genetics.

Also, where do Zemo's notes indicate that Khazard wasn't the first Mahjarrat born on Gielinor. All I see is him mentioning that Khazard is the youngest of their race of the plane and that he was born near the end of the god wars. Nothing is mentioned about other Mahjarrat having been born on Gielinor. And even if we accept that he wasn't the only one born on Gielinor, you have to keep in mind that Palkeera was deliberately hiding here weakness from the other Mahjarrat, making it entirely plausible that Zemo didn't even know that her pregnancy had weakened her.

The Mahjarrat are shapeshifters, yeah, but they still have a true form, and they seem to be incapable of shapeshifting significantly from it for a significant period of time without side-effects (as happened with Kharshai). Personality and stuff had nothing to do with what happened to Khafshai, merely the fact that he was shapeshifted into a human for over 500 years.

If Khazard's only genetic parent was Palkeera, then (s)he would look identical to her.

If Khazard was anything special in regards to being born on Gielinor, Zemouregal would have made a note of it, instead of just going "oh he's the youngest".

I get the feeling that Zamorak is not particularly fond of most of the current Mahjarrat and how they are only interested in their own individual survival, rather than the survival of their species as a whole. From "Bilrach"'s dialogue in Nadir, we can probably gather that he only tolerates their presence because they're useful to him.

Zaros being Khazard's father is impossible, since he was born thousands of years after the Zarosian empire ended.

False, as we don't know how long Mahjarrat gestation periods last, assuming that they even give birth in the traditional sense in the first place.

Dude, the Mahjarrat are beings of divine energy. You're assuming that genetics even plays a part in their reproduction, which isn't a safe assumption considering they are literally made of magic (from Seren's memories, newborn Mahjarrat are made from energy taken from Mah).

And yeah, personality and the company you keep almost certainly do play a part in appearance as otherwise Jhallan would have taken on aspects of the muspah when he returned to Mahjarrat form (they were both absent for the same amount of time).

And again, as I already stated, even if we assume Khazard wasn't the only Mahjarrat born on Gielinor, Palkeera states in her journal that she had been hiding just how much power she'd lost with Khazard's birth. It is entirely plausible that Zemouregal simply wasn't aware of said power loss because of her hiding it.

We covered part of how it works in Mahjarrat Memories and Fate of the Gods, with the Ritual of Enervation. As this is an issue the Mahjarrat are facing, it's probably something we'll go into more detail on in future Mahjarrat stories.

Yes, but the ritual of enervation is something used on Mah during particular bad nightmares. Both Moia and Khazard were conceived and brought to term with Mah no where in sight. That to me seems to place Mahjarrat's reproduction in other realms, and that Mah was not strictly required at all. Just convenient.

Which is where my theory comes in. Thanks for letting us know it's being covered in future content :)

Oh, all these problems you are having with the reconciliation of reproduction, gestation, and shapeshifting would be solved if the mahjarrat are ovuliparous.

No, not oviparous, like chickens. Shapeshifting chickens would still have gestational problems. Ovuliparous, like frogs and fish.

Spoilered to keep noobs from decending into gibbering madness.
"But Penny," you object, "ovuliparous critters need to do it in the water, lest their spermatazoa dry out and die!"

We are talking space gem wizards whose -- fluids -- are all most likely anima. And if they were able to reproduce on Freneskae, a mostly anima-dry environment, what trouble would they have on Gielinor? Other than oops, our females are all dead or reluctant?

Mind, Mah was born from an egg, as were Bik, Ful, Wen, and Jas. We have no clue (yet) if the Elder Gods come in male and female varieties; this whole sexual reproduction thing might just be due to Mah's vivid imagination. ;) Egg laying space gem wizards? Piece of cake for the inventor of sex itself.

Although, the idea and maybe the implementation are older. I mean... plants... we have wheat and various angiosperms in game, and we enjoy the fruits of their ... labor. Bik the Shaper may know something about it.

But seriously. Why are we so stuck on internal fertilization and gestation when we have ^^.
