Cy, I'd be willing to give it a go, what do you have in mind?
Pity that you're not here to stay, Artanis, though it's always a pleasure to see people pop in once in a while. Indeed, I am in art school and trying to making it as an artist *welp* And congratulations on your graduation as well! I don't think many people realize what a demanding course it can be.
I suppose nowadays if you found an app that can generate ASCII art it might be more acceptable, since it would bring activity to the thread, but being somewhat old fashioned and a bit of a purist, I'd say it might be frowned upon by some.
Omg, I just rediscovered all the old Youtube channels from the ASCII artists from back in the day. Such feelings of nostalgia, those really were great times. How strongly I wish everyone was still around so that we could all fully reminisce. This was literally my childhood.
Nop Rssaid: I remember a few from 2010ish, I think...
I don't understand how everyone stays away lol, the nostalgia would be too strong for me to stay away
Agreed, Nop. I know I was gone for ages, but there were several times that I visited the forums without posting, just to see how things are doing. I keep hoping that some of the others may be doing the same. It was such a huge part of my life at one stage, I don't think it's possible to simply forget that.
Nop Rssaid: Yea, I know I came around after your heyday, but you always maintained a fairly significant presence, even if you only posted every now and then. I can kinda understand the people who sort of fizzled out, and maybe still pop in once a year. IE kooky, skull, agile, r2d, jinx, parri, etc. But then there a few who one day just randomly dropped off the face of the earth, and, barring disaster, I really don't get that. IE my OG partner in crime Demonfyre, Rhombo?, and others. Like, can't you at least say goodbye to your friends after all these years? Oh well, maybe we're just overly nostalgic/sentimental
I know. I remember when artists like Vipers02 and Tozarian Ix quit, they each made a thread with a lot of good-bye messages addressed to each artist. That was rather bittersweet, because the messages were wonderful and it ended with a good note. But then again some people don't just come to the conclusion to quit, they just become less and less active until they disappear completely (guilty here).
By the way, I does anyone remember what the forum was called that one of the artists created after 7/10? We used it mainly as a chat thread but we still posted a lot of art on it too. Was hoping if I could find it, then I might be able to recover some old art works.
EDIT: Found it. Won't post the link since that's probably a no-no. Uuurgh, and I named my account Saphi-socks *cringes at 12 year old me*
Another edit: Would it be unethical to post some of the older artists work to celebrate their art? I mean, we're pretty lax nowadays in terms of copying, and these people were my buddies.
I think it happened in 2007? On the 10th of July, a bunch of us (Mashpotato55, Brendans*lvn, Froggyjojo to name a few) were doing our usual thing on BD# when 3 Forum Moderators started hiding our posts for going 'off topic' because we weren't posting ASCII. Mashpotato drew "talk in ascii" and then got a temp forum ban. Froggyjojo tried to narrate the event through ASCII pictures and also got banned. Obviously none of us were too happy about this and subsequently +- 6 artists were banned due to our responses.
After that a few artists quit and things kinda just died down. So the remaining artists resorted to posting on this external forum for communication, but that too eventually died.
