The argument is simple. Entrana is virtually dead content on members' servers (although that can be said of a lot of content in members') so why not open it up to F2P?

There wouldn't be much to gain for F2P aside from exploring, the furnace, and a hops patch for barley, none of which would be any game breaking features. On that same island you would have the balloon station, law altar, glassmaking, and Entrana Dungeon all locked behind membership.

Making Entrana F2P would provide a welcome update to the free version of the game and simultaneously provide future members a concrete idea of what content they're missing out on. It's that idea that I think should drive F2P expansions in the future.

I don't think players would return without relevant features to back the island up.

- Hops patch: Well - okay... not too useful for f2p as is.
- Enlightened Journey (and the balloon network) is woven a bit too deep into membership for the terms of items needed.
- Dungeon: Pointless without lost city backing it up.
- Law altar: Could certainly be an option.
- Glassblowing: Might also be an option, but would pose quite a few more questions of which should be made f2p as well.
Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
Quick Fixes: Invention

While I agree with the general sentiment here, I think Entrana would make for a good free-to-play update along with something else. Giant Mole was a good free-to-play update because it took a seldom-used piece of members' content and added some new drops that created powerful early/mid-game content that members didn't need (Clingy Mole, which is still outclassed by an Antifire Potion). Similarly, Entrana, with minor tweaks, could become a useful, but far-from-gamebreaking, hub.

Just going off the top of my head, Entrana Dungeon poses a unique challenge thanks to the fact that you have to make your own weapons to use it, which creates interesting potential for lower-levelled accounts. Also, Entrana has all of the materials on it for glassmaking; opening that up to free players could diversify Crafting training while being far from gamebreaking in terms of "giving away content." The RuneScape Wiki lists glassblowing as a fair method of training Crafting in early levels.

So while I think that just outright opening up the island to free players wouldn't accomplish a whole lot, it's definitely a place with good potential, were Jagex to decide to open up a bit more of the game to its free players. I like the idea myself.

1) Just because its dead, doesn't mean it should become f2p
2) Making it f2p won't necessarily revive it
3) There's a ton of dead content, should they all also become f2p? Doesn't make sense

I'm not making the argument that it should be free solely because it's dead content. That said, I could have made the point that the content wouldn't be game breaking and would actually be of some use, particularly exploration, all without releasing swaths of p2p game area/p2p quest and skill requirements. There's a great suggestion by Demither10 that suggests making glassblowing available to f2p as it would allow them to train crafting, something very few members use nowadays.

Either way however, dead content from the Warrior's Guild to the Games room were basically dead but that didn't stop Jagex from adding them to F2P. For these reasons, we can only guess as to why they were put in place, should there be more updates to f2p in the future (and there certainly will at some point), making Entrana F2P would be a good step in that direction and should be a priority in that regard..

I think making glassblowing f2p is an excellent way to train crafting. however there is still the question of what should F2P be allowed to craft. If it were released, F2P could only make beer glasses and empty vials. The only thing that makes sense to add would be an unpowered orb and with it, possibly including charge air or even earth orb and elemental orb crafting with edgeville dungeon through the wilderness.

Air orb crafting too is something I would support. It would be another F2P money maker for mid-levels with which they could use to buy bonds. It may decrease the price of air orbs making crafting them a bit more cost effective and would help rejuvenate the Wilderness as people would likely run into pkers (as they do for low levels on osrs) thus increasing activity. in the area

I also support making the northern part of edgeville dungeon F2P, certainly without the black demons and potentially with or without the chaos druids and other monsters. Obviously the agility course to earth warriors would be cut off.

All in short, there are a number of updates that Jagex could do although this one might be a little more complicated to implement.

I certainly would leave out orbs for now. It just wouldn't feel well-thought if half of them was available, while the other half isn't - I mean, we're not talking about vertical progression in here.

Beer glasses and vials is a bit pointless, but would be sufficient to show players the basic potential of that kind of crafting. As a pure training method it might boost the value of glass though (since the amount f2p could create is rather low, they'll insteady rely on obtaining it from members most likely).
