Welcome to the Tree Hunters forum thread!

We are a Friend’s Chat dedicated to hunting Evil Trees. If you like to join us in the hunt, you are welcome in our friends chat (not: clan chat) "Tree Hunters".

Our goal as a tree hunting chat is to provide a fun and safe environment for hunting evil trees. We do allow free chat and try to hold regular events. Before joining, however, please take a look at our rules on post three. They are important to follow and failure to do so will have you removed from the friends chat. You may also want to read the rest of this thread, which is packed full of information about evil trees as well as the friends chat.

This Friend’s Chat was formed on Feb 2, 2009, making it the oldest tree hunting chat around. Leadership lies with a Council of 3 leading ranks from different time zones. This means that your efforts in the chat won't be missed, no matter what time zone you are in. The council currently consists of (in alphabetical order) EF14, No1Klingon, and Pah Psi. If you have any problems in game please feel free to pm any of the council members.

We would like to personally welcome all of you to this community, and we hope you all enjoy your time with us.

-----|• Rules •|-----

The rules of Tree Hunters, otherwise named the Do's and Don’t's, are a list of important things to keep in mind while in the friends chat. These rules were put in place to keep the chat orderly, safe, and fun. Refusing to follow these will result in a kick and possibly a ban from the friends chat.

Do:

- Follow all Jagex rules
- Update your world regularly
- Report the tree you are cutting at least once
- Be polite at all times
- Use English only
- Let ranks handle all problems
- Report using the template 'World/Type/Location/Health'
- Give all information possible (number of people cutting the tree is nice to know)

Don’t:

- Ask for reports
- Use quick chat unless to report a tree
- Trade, lend, or ask for money or items
- Submit false information
- Cause arguments
- Spam the chat at any time
- Scam, withhold, or leech reports
- Advertise another group or clan
- Pretend to be a rank (by using a similar name, by claiming so, or by typing 'Attempting to kick/ban ...' in the chat)
- Use words (or abbreviations) you would not hear on the TV news.

––––|• Evil Trees •|––––

Strange things are afoot in the woods around RuneScape. An unusual sapling has been seen sprouting among the trees, and it's growing at an alarming rate. Aided by a familiar-looking farmer, you could help encourage this burgeoning seedling - but keep an axe and tinderbox handy because it could become...an evil tree!

Evil trees can appear in one of 26 forest locations; just keep an eye out for leprechauns and thrashing roots (which might try to grab you). If you have completed the Tree Gnome Village quest, spirit trees will offer you directions, clues, and teleports.

The first stage of an evil tree's growth is as a sapling (which is entirely unsurprising: it may well be wicked and vicious, but it is still a tree). During this time, the leprechaun will merrily wander about asking passing adventurers to help nurture it. Anyone with the required Farming level can nurture the sapling without any tools simply by clicking on it.

There are five growth stages before the sapling expresses its true nature, at which point you should discover that its thrashing roots prevent you from directly harming the tree itself. In order to get access to the tree, you will need to use an axe to hack the roots away. When the tree is denuded of some of its roots, you can set fires or use your axe to hack into its bark. These roots come back 60 seconds after being removed.

You can interact with the evil tree twice a day and they spawn once every two hours.

––––|• Scouting •|––––

There are several ways to scout. Whatever method you use, please report using the format:

World / Type of tree / Location / Health %

Talking with the spirit tree

In order to scout, you can speak to any Spirit Tree and ask about the Evil Tree. Initially,
there are three locations to talk to Spirit Trees: North east of the Grand Exchange, Tree
Gnome Stronghold and Tree Gnome Village. You can also speak to spirit trees near Khazard
battlefield, Mobilising Armies, or personally planted spirit trees at farming patches.

*NOTE* In order to talk to these trees you must have done the Tree Gnome Village quest.

Once you have talked to the Spirit Tree, it gives you the time until the next Evil Tree will
sprout on your world. It also gives you a clue about the location of the Evil Tree.

Use sunbeam crown or icicle crown

If you have done the Easter event in 2011, you can use your sunbeam or icicle crown to
report, however if you have run out of charges, you cannot use the crown to teleport to the
tree. To use your crown you must right-click on it while wearing it, and chose "contact
crown".

Use the Minigames tab

Open "Adventures" panel: press F3, or click on compass on your ribbon (not to be confused
with compass on your minimap!). Click the "Minigames" tab, and in the scroll list, look up "Evil Tree" (under D&Ds). The time given there is the time until the next evil tree on your world.

*NOTE* You still need one of the first two methods to find out type and location of the tree.

Use the in-game clock

This is the fastest method, as you only have to hover with your mouse over the clock to see the time. However you have to configure your interface.
See the post How to configure your in-game clock.
