Type of client used: NXT
Operating System (Windows Version, Mac OS Version, Linux Version): Windows 10
Laptop/Desktop: Desktop
Processor: Intel i5-4690K
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
RAM: 16GB

So I have been experience game hangs while using the NXT Client for the past ~week or so. Randomly, the client will just stop doing anything, as if I'm disconnected from the server. I run into no issues with any other program I am using when these hangs happen.

I am able to click on things in the game world, but nothing will happen until the game picks back up and then everything that my character would have done in the time the game was hanging happens all at once.

I have recorded a video that showcases the bug here: https://youtu.be/-OycuHwsKZc

Run a ping test next time this happens to see if packets are being lost.

To do this, simply ping the world you're connecting to:

ping world32.runescape.com -t

Replace world32 with the world you're using at the time of the freeze.

To stop the test, press "Ctrl" + "C".

Run the test for as long as the issue is present. Once the problem subsides, stop the test and check your results. You should see 0% packet loss when pinging the server you're on. If not, there's a problem.

If packet loss is detected, try using several different worlds to see if that helps.

Depending on the frequency of this issue, you could also try temporarily using Java to see if the same problem occurs. This tells you if you're dealing with a client-specific issue or something else entirely. This way we know if it's NXT or not.

So I went ahead and pinged the world I was on at the time of the hang. Another interesting bit of information is that the website wouldn't load at all for me while the game was hanging.

Here are the results of the ping:

Pinging l3ushe46-bond0-7.jagex.com [8.42.17.214] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 8.42.17.214: bytes=32 time=123ms TTL=58
Reply from 8.42.17.214: bytes=32 time=123ms TTL=58
Reply from 8.42.17.214: bytes=32 time=122ms TTL=58
Reply from 8.42.17.214: bytes=32 time=125ms TTL=58

Ping statistics for 8.42.17.214:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 122ms, Maximum = 125ms, Average = 123ms

Nothing seems out of the ordinary under the hood, so I'm not sure what this issue could be. I will try the Java client to see if I run into the issue there.

Looks like you missed the -t part of the command as it only ran for 4 pings. -t basically makes the test run until you manually stop it yourself. Make sure you run this test as 4 pings is not really enough.

Seeing how the website stops loading during the time of the hang, it seems there might be a problem with your connection to Runescape itself. Not exactly sure what could be causing this though if other sites are loading perfectly fine. Maybe an issue with ports/firewall?

Here is the result of a ping while the game was hanging just a little bit ago:

Ping statistics for 8.42.17.214:
Packets: Sent = 15, Received = 15, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 118ms, Maximum = 124ms, Average = 121ms

I also ran a ping during a play session yesterday, which I was unable to post for some reason... but basically when a hang would occur, the ping would spike up to around 200ms, then immediately back down to normal, and it would stay normal throughout the hang. I lost about 4 packets that session, and none of them were related to any hangs or lag in-game.

I did try to use the Java client, and didn't end up getting any hangs. But the FPS lag in that client was immense, and isn't a feasible alternative for me to use.

Another report from a bit longer of a hang that occurred just now:

Ping statistics for 8.42.17.214:
Packets: Sent = 143, Received = 143, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 113ms, Maximum = 222ms, Average = 121ms

I think it's safe to say this issue isn't about packet loss.

What sort of programs do you have running whilst playing? Everything from programs you've opened yourself to things running at start-up?

This poster (click here) had an issue with staying connected to the game. He later found the problem was being caused by something called "k9 web blocker". Whilst you might not have this specific program installed, there might be another program on your machine that's potentially interfering with how the game runs.

I do still have internet access when hangs occur, however the Runescape website (last time I checked) refused to load while the game was hanging.

As for programs, I have my usual programs that I always have running when I'm playing any game on my PC:

Discord
Google Chrome
Battle.net Launcher
Steam
ShareX

and some miscellaneous software for my peripherals:

Logitech Gaming Software
Razer Synapse
Realtek HD Audio Manager

Other programs I might have running depending on what game I might be playing at the time:

Epic Game Launcher
Origin

However, neither of these above programs have been open today while I've experienced hangs.

I am running on a 5G Wi-Fi connection using a Wi-Fi Network Adapter purchased from Best Buy a few weeks ago: D-Link Dual Band Wireless AC1200 PCI-E Desktop Adapter

I have experienced moments of lag in other games, but in those moments, my entire connection lags (friends on Discord become laggy, webpages load slowly, etc.), whereas when Runescape hangs, I can still talk to my friends perfectly fine and webpages are unaffected (other than the Runescape website).
