W2 and W84 portables is at least 200 higher ping, it's not worth doing your dxp gains on these worlds. You could do your portables in ur clan's homeworld. This could also apply to the artisans workshop world, but i havent been there since release. Hope my PSA helps.

I don't think it's related to the ping, but rather to how long each game tick lasts. For whatever reason, when the game gets too crowded during dxp weekends, on w2 especially a game tick begins to last longer than usual. Personally I saw it when I trained with cleansing crystals, the timer bar would expire a lot earlier than the exp was exhausted, and the exp drops were occurring slower than usual. Had no lag because I have a very good connection, the game was just in slow motion basically.

It's not really ping. It's to do with the population of the worlds.

Delays can be observed on worlds with a high player count. Your ping will report no changes yet you'll find the game just runs or feels slower than what you're used to.

Nowadays, delays can be seen as soon as worlds hit above the 250 players mark. Most worlds have an average of this amount during DXP and while they aren't on the level of lag as W2 and W84, they're still relatively bad. It's enough to make killing bosses annoying.

I always switch to foreign worlds during DXP due to their lower player count. They run much smoother because of the low player count.

For optimal performance, you need a world with both low ping and below 200 players. The lower the player count goes, the better. For some reason, worlds can't handle many players any more. They struggle at not even half their maximum capacity.

I remember the days when many servers were running with 1000+ players quite happily.
Only when it approached 2k did the server start to show signs of struggle, and even then it was usually just a bit of intermittent overload-related lag.

Not sure whether the current servers falling over at ~500 is due to the computational demand of the game increasing, or Jagex downsizing the resource allocation.

The latter, I expect, being cynical.

Luckily, this Bonus event, I was able to mooch off portables on all my usual worlds, which remained mostly at their usual levels, given none of them are auto-login worlds.

I'm glad I read this thread.

The delays I experience during such times were, I assumed, due to me having an 'old' computer and therefore it was my own fault.

I'd never bothered posting about it since the usual litany of "you need to upgrade your potato" remarks would have no doubt been trotted out.

It's interesting to read that there may be an alternative reason behind the issue - one not of my own making.

Server overload. Simple as that.
Most servers start to fall down from about 400 players on. Go take a look at the Belgian server at peak time, which is always running like shit when the game autologs me into it.

When you have a popular world at bonus xp, with 1000+ players at points, all doing intensive actions, the server stops falling down and start rolling on the floor. Makes me wonder why/whether they don't upsize popular servers in particularly busy periods.
