I've been thinking about it for a while and I am coming up with a proposal for an in game setting (via NPC) that will be able to reset your skills from max back down to beginner. I've come up with a "how it would work" scenario, it would work simply the way character customization would in game. You pay a fee of gp and you are able to reset your skills.

"What if I got hacked??" Well nobody truly gets hacked on runescape if you have the 2FA enabled. You must have put your information somewhere where it was easily accessible via cache or on a botting site.. No sympathy for you. However in the rare case, the skill reset will follow the same policy as Name Reservations... It will be tied to your account for 35 days then it will be erased. Alternatively, it could have a pin like the bank pin to protect from griefing.. etc.. work in progress

"What about our banks?" I've thought about this part as well. I would be in support of a complete bank wipe or keeping inventory, either one I would be in support of.. However ultimately it will be Jagex's weight to level and decide which would be the most community friendly and appropriate sacrifice for this said concept.

"What about the quests?" I assume some things need to be more thought out and planned differently. Assuming you would like to do it again, quests could be reset too.

I feel this would be a good option could do in order to keep playing the game, but take the opportunity to do something differently.

EDIT: This feature would be an option a user "who wants to use it" its not a railroad feature.

Jagex recently said only 50% of the players actually use the authenticator. And even those that have it still fall victim because their computer gets infected with something. It's not easy to figure out where, when and how you even got infected.
Having a bank PIN on it won't help because the malware will register that too and use it against you.

Just no.

"Well, I want to start over completely" - already possible, just create a brand-new account.

"But I want to keep my old name" - change the name of the account with it currently, and then create the new account with that name when released.
Perhaps as a new feature have the option to release an account name early for use when creating a new account (even specify the email it goes to?) - this might be abusable for name selling, so Jagex would have to think carefully about how to handle this.

"But what about my friends list?" - already possible to recreate your friends list, although it's a bit tedious.
Perhaps as a new feature, have the option to send a mass-message to your entire friends list who have mutually added you saying "I'm creating a new character, please add this account too" and then they would have the option to add you in return there too. This would message players who are offline when they next log in. I put in the mutually added part to avoid abuse/spamming of strangers.

---

As you can see, it is already perfectly possible to do what you want, it can just be made easier by some new features.

Nixri,

This topic has been covered by Jagex before and they already said it will never happen and they do not ever plan for this type of action in their game to happen in no shape or forum. They have played with the idea before but they all agreed that is not something they will ever do, as its not something that would be good for the RuneScape community. So its pointless to bring up ideas of resting your account back starter. They said if you want to do this just make a new account its easy as that.... This was said by a Jmod not a normal player a couple years ago on another persons thread that had the same wishful idea.

(I do not remember what J-Mod replied over the thread I just remember reading it).

Adarajin,

I like your idea of account linking. I dont know if i support it im 50/50 (Kinda) and If they really had to add it ill have no reason not to support it than. They have twitch account linking so I think it could be a option if they really wanted to do it. (I think the Friends list would have to be bigger though and that could be a problem with players with maxed friends lists). (Not much players want to play with low level account makers and it might not be worth it in the end). So adding like normal could be the best. Allot of players add other players becuse they have the benefits of knowing that account has the levels to join them on team based fighting.

I also liked the idea a person able to do offline mail, that I read somewhere on the forums. 2 months of saved player messages a long time ago and not sure if the thread is still alive. This would be the best way to let your friends know you have a new account without having to wait for them to come online and pick to add you. Plus the benefits of leaving them a message, if your going to be gone and you planed a play time and not able to make it.

I think a better way of doing new account adding & linking is once they open the message and it enjoyed or added it can say on the new account a the players screen you've been added, this way you knows they agreed to the add or this player by name has enjoyed the add. This would give a clear understanding if they have added you as it could be sent to many. Also if the player is not added to main this should never work. So players can not spam with new account adds in your message inbox center with a set amount of new accounts.

In other words limit a player to 3 new accounts until you have to re-link and after 3 accounts are linked it's 1 full month to re-make any new accounts. This would also give all players that account was linked with a remove option to keep that account on their list or remove it.

(Each account can send one linked account add and after that a message will be showing a linked invite has already sent you can not send anymore to this player for a full month

As you see Jagex might just want to keep it sample and not want to miss with the friends list.
Their is allot to add here to make it work perfect and im not sure if its a great idea, but if its placed in game I think their could be great benefits to parts of how it would work and refine the friends list for the better.

All good posts. Assuming the position where Jagex is able to complete this without negative effects, that would be great. I enjoy the concept of account linking.

I'm not certain what you mean by "account linking" - I was just suggesting the ability to reserve a just-released name for another account, specifying that it needs to be a brand-new account that gets the name to try and avoid name selling so much, and the option to specify the new account's email to protect from sniping.

As far as the offline messaging goes.... I really would like for a mail system where you can leave offline messages (or even trade through them?) but I felt that that is a suggestion for another thread.

For the mass-messaging of your friends list of your new account, limiting to once a week at most often (once a month might be better) would probably work, as long as the friends don't have to be online at that exact moment in order to receive the message.

I take this as account linking and added to your idea.
