I'm in slight disbelief, kind of shocked, and also a little bit confused right now. I've just stumbled across a couple of threads on reddit that cannot still be relevant:

This & this.

As you can see in the second link, Mod Sabre pointed out that there are no rules against auto clicking hardware, only software. So I thought to myself, "surely, this cannot still be true 6 years later." I hop on over to the current Rules of Runescape and what do I find? Nothing. No rules against hardware assisting gameplay. Can we please have a Mod confirm or deny this?

No! You'll get banned for macroing! Play legit!

It's not a macro.

Edit: Also, I never said I was going to do this. Simply an inquiry.

Unfortunately those links you posted just redirect to this thread, as you can't link externally to Reddit.

Basic bot detection looks at the timing between clicks, so by using hardware to do clicking for you... I'm not sure what you had in mind... but a mechanical, automated clicker will almost definitely set off flags for macroing.

I've managed to track down the Reddit thread I assume you were referencing, and Mod Sabre says,

"I doubt it will be all that effective, I'm guessing in almost every case you will need to use the mouse as well as your keyboard!

As many of you have pointed out, the rules governing botting specifically relate to software only, but if by some chance there is a flood of K'NEX botters we will take a look into it :P"

So I'm pretty sure it's a case of it just not being effective or popular enough for them to even consider a stance on it.

I can try and get some more recent official word on this if you'd like, but my advice would be to avoid it and just play the game legitimately to ensure nothing happens to your account :)

That is the correct thread. Also, yes, I would like more recent official word on this because while I find it extremely unlikely that I would ever find myself going out and buying legos to do this or taping my freakin' mouse to a wall with a rotating fan (lol!), I would like to know where Jagex stands with this. Quite a few of my friends that I've told about this would like to know as well. Thank you so much!

The official work is that using Automation to play for you is botting.

Regardless of whether its software or hardware.

I am aware of the official definition of the term "bot." However, I am not asking for an official definition; I am asking for Jagex to declare an official stance on the interaction of non-player hardware with their game.

Until Jagex declares whether or not this is against the rules, people may do this and be banned regardless of the fact that hardware being used to automate a clicking action inside of their game is not expressively against the stated Rules of Runescape.

I feel this is all very obvious. Otherwise, why would I even ask? I'm not sure why you replied to the thread with this response.

Thing is, when I stand at my bank pulling out ingredients and making the same potion thousands of times to level herblore, I am doing the same mouse movements and clicks hundreds of times.

A macro/bot also does the same mouse movements/clicks hundreds of times, but it’s against the rules because I didn’t waste my own life and brain cells doing those repetitive things?

Perhaps if the grindy parts of this game weren’t such a waste of our lives this wouldn’t be an issue.

I guess you could try it and see and let us know...

btw jagex doesnt say what will and wont set off the bot detection system.
they say it will allow bot makers to figure out how to by pass the botwatch system.

I personally wouldnt even try it to see if i could get by with it. But some
people want to save a few seconds and in the process maybe loose their
whole account.

It should be fairly obvious that it one type of automation tool is disallowed all types of automation tools are disallowed.

I guess your interest in wanting to circumvent the rules just show your true colours.
