This game has been in development for 18 years now and somehow it still has it's original input delay. Will RS ever understand that it's almost 2020 and we're having input delay like we're on AOL dial-up from the '90s? I understand that this has been brought up previously, and the main issue everyone defends this with is, "They will never fix this, they'd have to basically rewire the entire system."

If this is the case, then I think it's time to rewire the whole system. Technology and other MMO's have surpassed these trivial issues well over a decade ago, and somehow one of the biggest MMO's of all time still struggles with this. Runescape is a multi *b*illion dollar company. This is honestly just getting sad.

It's simply entirely infeasible for them to do.

Not only do they need to rewrite everything in the game, it's also what makes RuneScape a highly accessible game.

If I stand correct it has has to do with how the game-engine is build and how a lot of hardware is being developed these days and what the future of development in the entertainment industry will bring us.
It is not a simple matter ... and Andrew Gower, at the time, was already aware of this but you can't simply change things in a current running environment.
The risk is that within minutes that environment is being turned upside down with a lot of damage.
Andrew Gower did withdraw himself from everything that we do know him of to start to build a new futuristic game-engine that covers all its tracks and fix the things that need to be fixed, in the game-engine, so we'll enjoy gaming more in the future. The whole programming of the game-engine will be rewritten bit by bit which takes a lot of time, including tests to make sure everything will run smoothly with all current hardware.
Until then, when he finishes, we need to take the things as they are and enjoy it as much as possible.
You can't blame anyone for fast development of the computer industry but you can blame some for doing a shit job in letting The RuneScape Community know.

And having 600ms base delay is infeasible to have. There has to be something that can be done. And what do you mean by accessibility?

By automatically having a 600ms delay, you can have not the best connectivity and not suffer because of it. It also makes it easy to predict exactly when q certain ability at a boss is about to hit.

And I'm not saying they can't keep it similar but without the delay, but it's been part of the RuneScape identity for a long time.
If they do change it, we'd all hope it doesnt change how the game plays.

The game is ridiculously network efficient, using something like 10MB of data *per hour*, once the content cache is built. What held it back on the desktop is helping it heaps on mobile, plenty of people are amazed by OSRS low data usage, fast installation, and near zero downtime for updates, and these benefits will exist for RS3 as well when that is fully released. All of this is possible due to the game being originally designed for the worst PC's of 2000.

What it takes from one end, it gives to another.

Runescape is a skyscraper and you're asking to have the ground floor replaced. It can be done, but it's a massive undertaking and it may cause damage on other aspects on the game.
