Jagex, if you’re going to keep hiding things like this from questers who wouldn’t know elite dungeons would concern them unless they are going for mqc, which already proved itself harder than normal qc with the addition of elite slayer monsters couple years back, so elite dungeons requirement for mqc wasn’t too surprising.
A surprise quest is probably the best idea Jagex has had this year.

Even more so when they probably knew in advance that mentioning it would require elite dungeons would lead to whining. Probably exactly why they didn't announce the quest in the first place.

Until we find out even a normal quest cape can no longer be retained unless elite dungeons for the elite players has been beaten.
No one is entitled to a quest cape. If you want a skillcape that doesn't require upkeep, pick one of the 20+ skills.

And do not start me on story mode.
Story mode is an easier version. "Do not give me the solution to my problem." Aria Ventus said:
The drops and tokens are not worth the supplies and gear degradation invested into that mode as it is still hard for players with tier 70 stats and tier 70 gear. (Not referring to myself specifically but to the average quester, whose armour of trials no longer helps either since none of the bosses are quest bosses).
OBVIOUSLY the goal of story mode isn't for drops. Of course it's not worth it for drops. If it's not worth it for the quest cape though, that's up to you. The "average quester" does not have a quest cape.

Please just let us finish the quest without running through elite dungeons and leave them for master quest cape.
Questing is about visiting and engaging with a huge variety of content. People dealt with nomad, and it didn't have a braindead story mode.

I think you might be missing the point of the Nomad argument. Yes, there was a huge backlash against his inclusion in the Nomad's Requiem quest, because he was so very difficult. I remember vividly the twenty or so deaths I endured to bring him down. The clone attack was a brutal game of RNG, his unavoidable "your maximum life points minus one" attack was (is, really) a serious waste of food, and the fact that his auto attacks hit like cars and couldn't be blocked by protection prayers made him one of the toughest bosses in the game at the time.

So I'm pretty sure the point people are trying to make here is that Story Mode Elite Dungeons are objectively far less difficult than the "original" Nomad fight (which, incidentally, is now much easier to win); nothing in the dungeon can hit for anything near the 99,000 damage that would be required for a Story Mode instant kill; Seiryu's dragon breath attack is capped at 1,000 damage or so; The Ambassador's spinning wheel of doom requires several seconds to come even close to killing the player; and the Black Stone Dragon's chain lightning is limited to 300 or so damage per tick. Compared with Nomad's Requiem (on release) and Nomad's Elegy (now), the challenge is significantly less. It just takes longer than the average quest (to which I would happily refer you to a number of quests and miniquests that I believe take longer) to complete.

Is it annoying? Potentially, depending on your style of gameplay. Is it the toughest combat challenge to complete any quest in the game? I really don't think so. I still don't see the issue here.

Agreed. On top of that, the ED dungeons are more of a prerequisite than part of the quest. Catapult Construction may require Regicide to complete. That doesn't mean that quest deserves rewards on par with Regicide.

The point that most non-supporters appears to be missing is that the other bosses were an intrinsic part of the quests.

The EDs are part of the wider game and something that I never intended to do. I have never done any of the harder bosses and would be terrible at them if I did. I don't intend to be a hindrance to any team (other than the boss masses lead by Mod Lee, thanks Mod Lee) so why would I voluntarily subject myself to the stress of doing 3 EDs especially if I then have to find a team to do it with as well?

And completing the elite dungeons, which are story driven content, is an intrinsic part of completing the quest. Perhaps someone never intended to train firemaking. That doesn't mean we should remove firemaking requisites from quests.

I've already seen the very un-empathetic responses that say 'don't do it then' or 'it's easy, just go and do it on story mode'. So thanks in advance for the really great NON support from fellow Runescapers - maybe that's why some of us prefer to play solo, because players are generally selfish and only capable of seeing things from their own point of view.

You may find it unsympathetic but that doesn't refute the fact that the content is soloable. It doesn't refute the fact that you have an easier option available to you. The content doesn't scale with players, so you can even find more people on storymode.

Hell, if you find people that have already completed the quest, they get further damage reduction. There's never been an easier time to get into elite dungeons, even if your intent is to only do them once for the quest.

Elite dungeons are not mandatory content. Neither is the quest cape. Choosing not to complete the elite dungeons is a completely valid playstyle. You aren't entitled to the quest cape if you're unwilling or unable to do so.
