Hi there,

this is a way the "new" version of my old "Forums are XP waste. Change it"-thread but in this thread, I'm not only suggesting rewards for foruming. The major question for this thread is:

Are sacrifices inevitable if you want (a lot of) new players to join the forums?

Any suggestion that leads to more forumers is warmly welcome. Especially we'll discuss ideas that mean some sort of sacrifice for the players or for Jagex and if anyone finds the perfect idea for new forumers for which nothing has to be sacrificed I'm completely fine with this.

To give you a short idea of what I mean with sacrifice I want to put it two ideas for the start:

1st: Jagex should use the forums as communication tool and forums only.

With this is meant that there should be no more JMod twitter accounts, only RuneScape and Jagex. And instead of tweets, there's a sticky in which every JMod can post. Then there's no interaction on Reddit anymore. Players who want to interact with Jmods may use the forums. 80% of the tweets done by RuneScape should lead to the forums.

There would be an enormous sacrifice. But on the other hand, it was handy if there's only one place to communicate with players. Players needn't check dozens of sources and Jagex has one place to interact with the community, everything is bundled at one place and Jagex is completely in charge of that place.

This would be the suggestion following the guys that always say "More Jagex interaction on the forums". In this case, it would be more interaction and furthermore the only place for interaction.

2nd: In-game rewards for foruming

The sacrifice here could be a spam-free atmosphere. It could also be against the principles of many forumers. Forums have always been something you do voluntarily without any reward besides the fun. I don't care what kind of reward it is. I don't care at this point what kind of reward it is.

Hiya

much to comment on. I will start at page 1 and go through every post.:)

I don't think handing-out xp through forum activity will be the answer. It is a wrong solution to the problem.

This may be one answer. A better user experience within the forums and the forums being a place where you can interact with many Jmods might be an answer. But as you have stated (I did not quote that, look it up if you are interested) every forum update costs money. And there is no return on investment in this case. Mainly because you are trying to get people onto the forums that already have had interaction with Jagex and many other players.

Honestly, if Jagex was doing it that way they had to compete with social media. This is not a good solution and in a way, it's a vicious cycle. Because the forums are not updated and Jagex is elsewhere players go elsewhere. Because players aren't on the forums Jagex doesn't use them as a primary way of communication and does not update the forums.

We need to break the cycle. And the ways I have suggested are not really an update to the forum software. Since updating the forum software is at this point where no one can say for sure if it brings (many) users not smart for a business in my eyes. But making more users join through a connection between game and forums, that would be nice. And when the users are there then the forums are worth an update ;).

To get the users needed to make a forum update Jagex' priority there has to be some sacrifice in my eyes. Either Reddit losing much Jmod support or also new spammers joining.

I think Social Media should promote the website by doing what it does on Youtube or Twitter, in the Runescape Forum and Website instead.

Im trying to say that all videos and streamers and uploaders should have the option to come here. That also means to remaster the freakin... software here in the forums.

And.... If you CUT OFF all comments, replies and such on Social Medias like youtube and reddit or twitter and you start limiting your uploads there and increasing them in here it will bribe and force players to use this site entirely for

Sacrifices are NOT inevitable :)

This is a fantastic idea. Sadly it will not be done I guess. Videos need a lot of storage and it's way easier for Jagex to let Youtube provide that storage and then it's always easier to show someone a youtube video than giving someone a link to a special gaming website.

I saw you edited your posts on page 1, please don't do that. I'd have liked to comment on them. Please also read my comment directed at Louiellen since it may bring up what I think and why I'm so much going for rewards or why I think sacrifice is needed. And by the way - realizing your idea means sacrificing the youtube promotion ;) .

And you are right - we are trying to figure out something. Don't let Louiellen stop you. She's just a bit frustrated... ^_^

And please stay in my thread :). You pushed the discussion with your ideas. You are doing well, don't let different points of view change your willingness to contribute.

Cheers

Hiya,

not a bad suggestion. Maybe LMod accounts for Jmods when their work is done would help. I mean if I was a JMod I wouldn't want to do forum moderation review in my free time but posting about something interesting or replying to a for me interesting thread could be possible :).

At this point, I have to admit I'm glad about any suggestions. But I'd love to see it discussed if the forums need rewards or if there should be some sort of Twitter or Reddit limit.

Cheers
