Hmm, I've never bothered to hover links in the RSOF since they can only take me to a Jagex domain, but I guess I'll start now if logging others out is the new way to troll the forums...

I support removal of the ability to link the logout button, there's no reason why anyone should need to link it. I've never seen anyone ask "How do I log out of the forums?"

I think this is the most feasible action to take for Jagex. Since yes, it will be silly for Jagex to censor its own URL.
They'd just have to black list/invalidate links to their domain going to /logout - but I agree the confirmation would probably be the quickest and easiest to implement.

Logout confirmation isn't the way to go. Just need to blacklist the ability to link the logout page as theres no reason to need to link to it from a post or signature.

Who even does this?...
Nobody should be doing it. To be honest, I haven't seen anyone doing it personally. The priority on this issue is low based on that fact, but it's something to consider for any future update the forums might receive.

No i meant how do you even do that?
How do you make a link or how do you blacklist the logout page?

If the former, then you'll find that:
Warning!
: This link will log you out of the forums!
I shouldn't be able to do this as I could just write the text in a way that makes you think it's a link to another thread and now I've logged you out. Obviously someone has tried it else this thread wouldn't exist, yeah? So, to imply that just because I, personally, have not seen the issue then it must not exist is just a poor argument - if indeed you're arguing against patching this potential issue.

If the latter, it all depends on how they have the system configured. It's apparently using a domain-based whitelist currently, so a black list of specific URLs or extensions, modules, etc should be feasible. In this instance, just blacklist URLs where "m=weblogin" as there's just no need for users to link anybody to the sign in/out authentication module.

How many people do you see asking how to log in/out that would make it handy for a user to post a link for it? My guess is no posts asking how to log in, because you can't post unless you are and if you figured out how to log in, then logging out should also be no issue.

Maybe you'd be ok clicking a link in someone's post that you thought was one thing and instead you got logged out. That's totally cool, but I can see a situation like that being frustrating to the majority of users. In the meantime, users can use the hover-check method to get an idea where the link goes but I think it's unreasonable to expect them to have to do that forever. Why let users who are less knowledgeable with the forums be inconvenienced, having to just to make sure that the player that's "helping" them by posting an apparent link to answer their question isn't trolling them with a logout link?

Works for me if it's no issue to you. Like I said before, it hasn't been for me to date either, but I'm still perfectly fine with the capability being removed. I'm not demanding Jagex fix it tonight because we all know that won't happen, but you know... one day, might be good for them to consider removing in any future forum versions.
