Time and time again, i have came across people who have been hijacked and had their Authenticator disabled.
When i have told them about 2-Step Verification and how it protects their RuneScape Auth from being disabled, they have usually been clueless prior to me telling them.

I would like to suggest an update of the Runescape Authenticator setup page, making it more clear of how important 2-step verification is, in addition to their newly setup RuneScape Authenticator.

I'm fairly sure the web team doesn't do anything with that support centre , as it's done by the Customer Support team (although I could be wrong?).

Might be better posting in one of those forums, so that one of those CH people can nudge one of the CS staff. :P

Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.

I assumed since it's a part of the website that needed editing, it would be better off here. Oh well, it seems to have been pushed in the right direction, nevertheless. :)

I think we're all talking about two different pages here, one being here and another being the hosted Support Centre article.

As a web team, there is only so much we can do to encourage proper security - if we keep shoving it in people's faces they certainly don't appreciate that and become frustrated. See "why does this X not stop them permanently?!?" when we provide special offers on promotions ingame.

If someone doesn't want something, its not their problem until its our problem. We're looking at improving the Authenticator process in the near future for mobile users, so perhaps a refresh of that page will help.

Regardless, account security does remain the responsibility of the player.

Thanks,

That's the link i was talking about, apologies for the confusion. I understand what you mean about shoving these things in peoples faces faces, my suggestion was simply to add a reminder, or a link below the setup screen on "how to make the best of all the security features available."

Thanks for your reply :)

Setting the Authenticator - Mobile device

It already is is there but probably skipped while reading. Everything is mentioned followed by a link for further use.
The reasons I pointed out to that page was completing the first things first as that only leads to a secure RuneScape Account -

-
Before setting the RuneScape authenticator onto your RuneScape account you first of all need to make sure you have a secure email registered to the account. Please make sure you have taken the relevant steps to secure your email address.
The RuneScape authenticator is only as secure as your email.

We strongly recommend setting 2 step verification on your email address.

Anyways, I do agree it shouldn't be forced upon players as it's their own choice how to secure their accounts. :)

Completely understand why you linked this page. The whole reason of this thread though, is that when navigating from the RuneScape Lobby, you are faced with this page:

Authenticator

The link you provided is from the RuneScape support page, not everyone knows how to navigate there.

I don't mind explaining to people how to enable it though, be it here on the forums, in-game or on discord, it's just a shame that 9 times out of 10, it's due to them already being a victim.

This thread is pretty much wrapped up with Mod Lyon's comment, so thank you very much.

This thread can now be locked.
