This thread is in relation to the fortune Rs3 & OsRs combined have amassed together.

Both games have their flaws, Rs3 having bugs, & OsRs being far from finished, nor does it have the capacity to add more Dps to PvP.

In 2018 alone, Jagex posted a revenue of ú84.9 million. Where did this money go to?

By now both games should have been completed, bug free & balanced as a final product that needed minor oversight & maintenance. The bot problem could've been overcome in both games by making all players enter Iron Man mode & enabling PvP almost everywhere.

--------------------------

I'm not looking to turn this into a PvP vs PvM thread, yet what I'll offer instead is a perspective that a new third game should already be underway. The game could be completely PvM that is based on gear alone without levelling.

It could also have events that spawn Npcs that patrol the game attack players & other environmental influences that affect the game-play.

---------------------------

Where did it all go so wrong, or did the majority of the Jagex employees & also the higher level of management simply become complacent & get lazy?

I do think back to Old Boy K, he always wanted a futuristic machine-like game, & that could've been delivered by the means of the third game I've mentioned that should be underway.

PvM based around a MechScape. Who would've lost out of this?

Surely you know how a business works?

The owners of the business pay their employees as well as other bills (think taxes.. electricity.. space rent if they don't own the building.. etc) and anything left over goes directly into the bank of the owner (to do with however the owner pleases).

I'm likely the first one to place blame on jagex for the things that they do wrong, but..

IMO it's highly unfair to accuse jagex employees (including their upper echelon) of being "complacent" and "lazy".

They are NOT the ones that get to decide how the profits are spent. The owner is. That's how a business works.

Well in case you're intrested in their financial statement:

Yea the link is long... i can't seem to get it shorter.
You could also google: "Jagex Financial Statement 2016", in case you don't trust the link.

On page 3, bottom of the page, it says it paid 30.4M pounds in dividend.
Page 17 shows the cash flow. Almost their entire profit was paid out in dividend.
Another large cash stack was used for intercompany loans.

Another intresting post is found here, which compares several years in more simplistic ways:

https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/9dnr81/jagexs_financial_history/?st=JLS2JY10&sh=8cbc1e75

Here you can see that, in terms of membership, OS is making jagex more money than RS3 as of 2016.

There is also a large amount of money coming from MTX, however this is not split up between RS3 and OSRS (bonds) but i'm sure we can safely assume that most of it is coming from RS3MTX.

The most shocking thing was the amount of employees&developers. They've layed off so many people as of 2015. Meanwhile their profits grew (thanks to MTX and the lay-off of so many people).

Then again, the decrease could be due to temporary workers being needed to rewrite the code for EOC and Transformers: Universe.

I thought Jagex had a development team of 300 + ? I've read it somewhere.

Jagex took part in a Transformers movie?

According to the financial statement of 2016 they have a headcount of 323 in 2016 and 338 in 2015, which links up to the Employees row in the second posted link.
Therefore i assume that the second posted link's data is correct.
The second posted link splits the employees and developers further.
Therefore in 2016 and 2017 they've had 137 (unspecified over the games) developers.

Note: an employee is not a developer, but a developer is an employee. HR, marketing, sales, etc staff are all employees but not developers.

Apperantly they did make a F2P game for it, which got cancelled (thus the lay-off of workers/developers i can imagine). Though the numbers are raw and not specified, so i can't say for certain. It could still be a lot of developers for RS3 and OSRS being fired. It's hard to tell.
