Mod Kieren said that the new Old School Runescape servers would only be temporary. Do you think that it is possible that they are testing the waters for a permanent Vanilla Old School Runescape server if the temporary server is popular enough or do you think that it really is just a temporary new game like how King of the Skill was?

Anybody else here find it odd how Jagex is releasing retro OSRS servers around the same time Vanilla WoW is coming out soon? Maybe they are trying to out nostalgia out each other. :) Also, remember how when Jagex first released F2P in OSRS, it only started out as a 2 week trial but then it become permanent? Maybe that is what they are doing here. It could be anyone's guess here.

Here is a link down below to the video where Mod Kieren talks about the new OSRS servers.

"We’ve been keeping an eye on the posts regarding us releasing an untouched version of OSRS as it was originally in 2013. The truth is that it’s not something we as a team, or a company, want to do. The main reason behind this is because we’re not interested in splitting the RuneScape player base further, especially given that Old School was, and is, built on its community.

You also must keep in mind that we need to look at this from a commercial standpoint. Whilst it may seem like a small or quick job on the outside, the additional resources required to start these servers, keep them running and maintain them going forward ultimately is just not viable. Taking development and engine resources from the main game, which is very much thriving, is not a wise decision for the business to make.

Quite simply it’s not something we can, or are willing to commit to. We fully understand there are those of you that feel extremely passionate about this, and whilst we’d love to please everyone, we simply cannot accommodate these requests.
If our stance changes on this at any time, we will make sure everyone is made fully aware.

I highlighted the part of Mod Ayiza's quote where it might be applying to what is happening with these new servers.

No, I don't believe their stance has changed at all. I can't be 100% sure.. I didn't see the livestream where this was discussed.

Does anyone know if there's been any "official" posts about it from jagex staff? Or any posts specifically addressing this "new" old school server?

I don't think so - He never mentioned vanilla at all iirc, and you're ignoring half of what he said. He was proposing locking it down to specific areas or activities inspired by swampletics. So it would be more like a long-running event than a new server. Anyone that wants changes to make ironman easier should be renamed wannabe-man and have their ironman icon replaced with a dunce hat.

Don't get freaked out (for those who are worried about OSRS 2 or RS4 or Runescape 2

I think Jagex is just working on publishing games like Runescape: Idle Adventure where they allowed their partner's games to use IP of the Runescape franchise, but Idle Adventure is nowhere close to RS3 or OSRS.

Someday you may see Zeah or Fossil Island or Guthix in another game, but I doubt that game will be anything close to OSRS in term of game play.

Kieren named some ideas about a new osrs server and generally it sounded like the type of servers they'd launch would be small and focus on something specific.

Yeah hopefully they are "testing the waters" for a new OSRS server. It would actually be nice because they have learned ALOT since OSRS launched 6 years ago.

Mostly likely not a vanilla server, why? because we have one already called OSRS.

Now my reason why i dont see it happening is OSRS is doing just find, it hasnt shown any loss in player base and its making plenty of money.

Reason why OSRS came out was when they released EoC, that was the last straw for a lot of people and they left the game, RS3 took a hit of half if not more than half its player base leaving at once, something OSRS hasnt seen so they added OSRS to try and bring back the player base they lost.

OSRS doesnt have this problem, yes we got a few that want a older version of the game but at the end of the day its just that only a few.

static vanilla server didnt do well on forums, didnt do well on reddit, didnt do well on youtube and also classic is proof of what happens to static server games , so there is no reason for them to add.

I don't believe there are very many of you who believe OSRS is "a vanilla server". Why? Because if it were there'd be nobody asking for one. =)
