Dear Fellow Runescapers,

It is my hope that the words posted below strike within each of your hearts a sense of purposeful reflection, as you journey through my post with me. Please keep an open mind. Thank you for your time and continued conversation on this matter of the RS experience.
________________________________________________________________________

There was a time when we all began our Runescape adventure without any knowledge of what was to unfold in Gielinor. Depending on when that time was, there may not have been any online guides to walk us into the endgame. All we knew, was that there were quests to solve, skills to master, and real-life friends awaiting us. Take a moment to hold that feeling in. That moment can never be reached again.

What we didn't know at that time, was how many years we would invest into this journey, and how many times we would replay it. Sure, we have RS3 and OSRS, to either play in modern elements or to attempt tangibility on nostalgia, but that fleeting moment is exactly what it is: fleeting.

It is fair to say that Jagex has shown over-the-years, an enduring commitment to players. The game has seen great impacts on playable experience, with core changes via mode selections to adjust our own paths of what is considered adequate achievement. Though these changes are now years old, it provided an opportunity to start anew with a non-experienced perspective of play. Challenges such as no trades, deaths, or banking could be validated through each mode: Ironman, Hardcore Ironman, and Ultimate Ironman; creating a sense of adventure-renewal was breath-taking for some. For other players, it was lackluster and moot.

An Ultimate Hardcore Ironman Mode would serve to take the Ironman series one step further, and possibly to its maximum potential as a self-play mode (With exceptions for Ironscape Player Groupings). This combination approach to no banking through death would change the difficulty

Each player has their own view on what difficulty means. For UIM, the ability to bank through death and other measures is enough of a challenge, and some may argue whether it is more difficult than HC. There is no discredit to any of these players, including regular ironmen. A natural step to the challenge of Ironman should be the fully-inclusive characteristics such as no trading, no deaths, and no banking in combination.

A previous forum post/comment suggested that the UHCIM mode was not needed, simply due to the ability of just playing without dying or banking. Sure, this is logical, but this is also how Ironman Mode was created. Players can altruistically and honestly play with parameters, but at the end of the day, they were not yet Ironscapers. They were regular players playing through non-regular methods to their own wills, and at some point, this will have to be the way. Jagex cannot cater to every type of playstyle. Now that Ironman modes have been released and well-played through, there is still calling for a more ultimate RS challenge than what has been provided by Jagex.

I am not sure whether it would pass the polls on RS3 and OSRS, but it is certain that with providing the opportunity to play a mode more difficult than HC or UIM on both RS3 and OSRS, a renewal of nostalgia will be gained for strategic play and new adventures that have not yet been seen before in the history of Gielinor.

What is suggested

Legacy Mode:

To combine the already existing modes of Ultimate (no banking) and Hardcore (non-safe death) into a new one called Legacy, and minimize death banking in order to promote a greater challenge of play and RS experience.

Thank you for your time, and I hope each of you continue your Runescape journeys with the same heart you began your legacy with.

Love the idea, but not a fan of the name. It reminds me a bit of legacy combat mode in rs3.

Perhaps Ultimate Hardcore Ironman would be a decent alternative? Or survivalist ironman? I'm not too sure, but definitely would love to see this in the game! Would start one as soon as it was released!

I can understand the sentiment of the name.

Ideally this would be available on both games. Can't wait to read more name suggestions!

There should be a mode of game play that binds no banking and hardcore rules of death together. Whether the name Legacy is used or not is another question. This should have more community thoughts.

Thanks for bringing this topic up. :D

I've actually been wondering why the option of ultimate ironman could not be combined with hardcore mode. While I'm a casual nubnub to the point that I'd never play UHCIM myself, I think that it would be easy to implement and worth adding. Some masochistic people out there would do it.

Since there are already account flags for ultimate and hardcore respectively, I imagine combining them wouldn't be a major technical challenge. Could even make it an option to tick both when you originally choose what kind of ironman you'd like to be. Then you wouldn't need to add a new category, players could simply choose to add the extra restriction to their playthrough. Then all you'd need is a new chat icon to mark Ultimate Hardcore Iron(wo)men.
