Let’s see, party hats worth billions because of their rarity. TH makes partyhats common. They turn into paper hats that nobody cares about. Profit?

Afros were released into the game long time ago, I don’t see many people wearing them, oh right, they are worthless junk that’s not rare.

I haven’t read after market manipulation. Can you please provide evidence that there is market manipulation. Because I bought my partyhats with the money I wanted to pay for them, not because someone else told me that it’s the price I should buy them at.

You do realise that if partyhats are thrown on threasure hunter your t92 weapons start to cost 10b gp right? Where do you think I and many others will invest all of our excess wealth? Then you gonna cry about putting the weapons on th or making them extremely common because you can’t afford them.

To be honest, knowing that this will never happen, it’s just not even worth arguing about. You have your own opinion, I got my own. The only difference is that I own partyhats and you don’t. So let’s leave it at that.

Guess my last post got ignored then..

Listen guys, although she's cheerful, Kalea's point about the flip/merch investing being significantly overpowered is a very, very real argument. Obviously nobody here has owned one or had any reason to follow the discontinued items forums very much. So let me try to explain something about it.

As many thread pages filled in those forums as we have here. Almost entirely comprised of partyhat offers. Buy and sells of the same colors from same people making trades and adding to their posts. Then there comes the Item Discussion forums with players tracking in the Discontinued Items Status V60 or whatever number it's on now.

If these forums didn't exist, making the flip/merch activity of partyhats skyrocket, they wouldn't cost so much.

Next, Darklore, I'd implore you to check out my eventual remake of my thread for an NPC store of brand new untradeable achievement item status symbol of wealth partyhats, possibly as a Billionaires Club type thing. I'll make it one of these days.

I'd even say they should put the Purple, or even any new one, on TH as a true test and show of how many people truly would appreciate them being expanded. What's the real harm in a new cosmetic similar to the Chromatic only being released a different way? If it wasn't so long and boring to get, more people would get the Chromatic. I know people like it.
I disagree that merching and flipping is a valid point against partyhats. As a partyhats owner mysel I can tell you that getting the capital ready to buy a hat is a very risky feat. A lot of thought process goes in to choosing right merches and getting out before you start to lose money. I myself have lost billions of gp on wrong investments. Since my risk of losing money is high, my reward should also be high, and it is. Dumb idea like this has one aim only - give players what they want without work or risk. No support.

Wow your seller mercher buyer diagram is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen to say that prices are manipulated.

Real world example:
Seller wants to sell 1,000,000 apples. Buyer wants to buy 5 apples. Supermarket (a merchant in your case) connects the two to make the transaction happen. Without the supermarket the apples will rot and the buyer would starve. The commission they get is reciprocal to the risk of not being able to sell the goods.

Runescape example:
Staker wants to sell a partyhat at 2am for 10b. Buyers at 2am are minimal. Buyers at 10am want to buy a partyhat for 10b. An intermediary (mercher in your example) connects the two to make a transaction happen. The commission they get is reciprocal to the risk of not being able to sell the goods.

If you think this is manipulation of prices, there is no help left.

Didn’t read the rest of the post because they are usually just garbage arguments anyway.

Those are not the same examples. Same examples in real world would be: apple is making billions of dollars. Apple is a huge company that you need billions of dollars to buy. You don’t have billions of dollars. You don’t get to own apple. End of story.

Dragon scimitar and similar items at high alch value are there because there is over abundance of them and they are useless. You contradict your own point. If partyhats are released at high alch value and everyone has one, nobody will care about partyhats anymore. However, there is a lot of wealth tied up in the partyhats right now. Dropping the prices will cause massive inflation, as we saw when they dropped below max cash few years ago.

But you keep living in your dream world. Also, treasure hunter should be removed. I don’t have enough money to spend on getting 200m all skills through th. There is a lot of game integrity issues from people who buy treasure hunter promotions, and it doesn’t make me feel festive. Removing treasure hunter is better for the community as a whole, we can all agree on that. Oh wait, that is exactly the same point you are making about partyhats. Ooopsies.
