Loved it but the ending doesn't make much sense.
Zem keeps undead army alive = sacrilege.
Guthix turns undead into nature bot army = all good.
???
I feel like Death should have a problem with that.

Guthix doesn't get a free pass I would imagine as there are rules and such and I hope Death isn't the type to make exceptions so I can only conclude whatever trickery Guthix is up to it is somehow allowed within the system.

Also I would like to know more about necromancy and this metal and what the heck was the point of having Cres try to sharpen and polish it.

I enjoyed the story greatly, but i find it a bit odd in terms of zemouregal's goals and zaros's role in this. If zaros had already retreated to obscurity, it is probably true that he was roaming the multiverse by then. Zaros also decided that, following Tumeken's sacrifice, that he would no longer pursue the desert campaign because of the harshness of the desert and his change of heart moment when Tumeken taught zaros of his willingness to sacrifice himself for his people.

With that in mind, zaros who has a relatively tight leash on the mahjarrat (sliske's mentioning of reports and stuff like big brother) would have never willed zemouregal to make a giant corpse of corpses to wage war on the desert that caused his change of heart regarding conquering in the first place. Why was zemouregal able to do this, commit that atrocity, without any sort of backlash from zaros or even the other mahjarrat with a sense of decency? I love the story, i just find that some of the background and basis makes little sense in terms of previously established lore to me.
Where Guthix sought balance in the world, I seek balance in oneself. Pax tecum.

@ Icaric - Thanks for the feedback. The idea I had was that this is a period of transition. As Zaros retreated into obscurity, his followers would be feeling somewhat at a loss. Until now, they'd been subject to the rule of a nigh-all-powerful, controlling god, and in his absence each would cope in their own way.

This campaign is Zemouregal - in his way - trying to continue serving Zaros. Perhaps he even thinks of Zaros's absence as a test - that Zaros wants him to take the initiative and do what couldn't be done. It's conceivable, too, that Zem - as a high-ranked military commander - could mobilise the plan relatively quickly, at least get a head start on any of the other Mahjarrat who might object.

These are the sorts of things that - in a short story format - have to be left to the imagination. :) Hope this helps you see what I was going for, though!

@ Wolfie - Cres isn't dead in the Epilogue - his soul's been transplanted into a new body, which is a construct sustained by the Anima Mundi. He acknowledges that there are ethical concerns here - just that any anger he might have felt is a chemical function no longer possible in his new body.

The automatons are just that - they don't have souls, and aren't conscious. When Cres says they 'live', hejust means that they can move and operate independently. Think of them as Anima Mundi-fuelled robots.

Guthix does what he feels is necessary for the balance of the world, and Ipcress/Cres's exceptional intelligence and care for the world made him a great recruit to the Guardians of Guthix. Death is a guardian too, and would make exceptions if it were necessary, and Guthix required it of him.

As for what Death was doing there, I'd say it was a two things - testing Ipcress as a potential recruit, and putting a stop to Zem's flesh giant plan. Which of those was his primary concern? You'd have to ask him. :)

So if Cres is pretty much alive thanks to his Soul and Anima, how was he able to die again in the World Wakes

Unless he didn't die and is going to come back to teach us about inventor *hinthint*

Also; since the Guardians of Guthix are my favourite characters in the entire game, and I spend hours chatting with Juna (even though I can't collect more tears >w>;). It's super nice to learn more about them! Can't wait to someday get a story about the Valluta or Fiara!

Or you know... The last two who we don't know about yet ;P *moresubtlehints*

This is very interesting on Zemo's character.

Considering all he know now with Zemo, does this mean Zemo sides with who he respects? Would Zemo become Zarosian again if he knew Zaros had returned?
