I think it's time to wake this thread up again, considering how River of Blood basically smashed the plot of the novels to pieces. Below are minor spoilers about the plot of River of Blood, so if you haven't done the quest yet and don't want anything spoiled, don't continue.

It's been officially said that River of Blood marks the FIRST time that the forces of Morytania have invaded the Salve. This means that Tenebra's invasion, and by extension pretty much everything in the second and third books, no longer happened.

I'm very disappointed. I loved the novels so much. Even if they were rarely ever referenced in game, it was nice to just have the knowledge that the things that happened in the book were considered canon in the game world. Now basically everything after the siege of falador is de-canonized. The Myreque quest line is nice, sure, but it's nowhere near as awesome as Return to Canifis/Legacy of Blood.

Also, was anyone else *really* surprised when they saw the Wyrd? Is that supposed to be what the Wyrd in Return to Canifis looked like?? Based on the book's description I was basically envisioning a vyre. Not the thing in River of Blood.

Wait, does it say that? I'm sure they wouldn't do that, especially considering how much Lord of Vampyrium and River of Blood drew on the novels. (In fact, Rowl*y even made reference to the novels in a couple of answers in the recent dev Q and A). What's the line in question? Maybe we can find an alternative explanation for it.

And Efaritay in the quest does say that the closer to Icyene the subject was, the larger and stronger the Wyrd.

They said in the Q&A before the quest came out that Tenebra's invasion most likely did not happen in canon, because no one in the game talks about it even though It was supposed to have happened only couple of years before the present time.

That's an incredibly stupid way to go when all they need to do is add a few references. Kara-Meir mentions killing Tenebra with the sunspear, it'd a lot more work to completely change the events of how that happened.

Where was this Q&A? On stream? I don't want to believe it until I hear/see it myself.

Okay, thanks... But this is about an hour long. Don't suppose you happen to remember *roughly* what point in the stream it might've been?

It's been long known that if the game contradicts the books, the books are wrong.
That's why I never bothered to read the books, I knew it would skew my view on a lot of lore if I assumed everything was true.. which is what I would've done. LOL
