it seemed animated and everything seemed legit. Well after I was done with it I had trouble logging back in due to "server problems" but was really someone on my account taking my stuff. When u got back on stuff was gone and was in a completely different spot then I had been. As advanced as this game is getting I figured all this stuff was as done with. This makes me not want to play anymore when I just started back up again

Unfortunately, that scam has been around for years. However, the forums may not be used to make accusations about other players by name, and posting the URL's to scam or phishing sites only puts other accounts at risk.

Please don't give up on the game. While Jagex's policy is that they do not return items lost due to account theft, the hijackers cannot steal your levels, and therefore you should be able to quickly earn back what you have lost. Do make sure that you are taking advantage of all the account security tools available, such as a Bank Pin and RuneScape Authenticator.

Remember:

- Jagex will never contact players in-game or via email to offer them moderator status or discuss account issues. That will only be done through the RS Message Center.

- If anyone approaches you claiming to be a Jagex Moderator and does not have a gold crown in front of their name and their name does not start with "Mod", they are not a J Mod and should be reported for Staff Impersonation. The gold crown will show in all forms of chat, public, private and clan chat.

- Do not follow links that you have been given by others to access the RuneScape site. Instead type the address yourself, or use browser bookmarks that you have set yourself. It the site you are being asked to visit is not runescape.com or jagex.com, that should set off alarm bells.

If someone is pressuring and/or bribing you to visit any website, even a YouTube or Facebook page, it's best to report them for advertising a website and then add them to your ignore list. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Like Tren said, any Jmod will have a gold crown along with their name starting with "Mod"

I personally like to screw with phishers who do this by wasting their time. If they message me out of the blue and give me the whole, "we've been monitoring you and are impressed with your maturity and blah blah blah"....that right there is the red flag to know it's a phishing scam. Mods will never contact you in game about.

Still you can have a bit of fun and waste their time by giving incoherent responses, feigning ignorance or stupidity, just to see how long I can string them along. Though if they give you a link, don't use it. This to me does two things.

1) It's plain fun to screw with them

2) It will give sufficient evidence to Jagex so there is 100% no confusion that they are dealing with a phisher, makes it easier for them instead of trying to work off one PM message and having to figure out if it's a joke or not.

Same as when a telemarketer calls. I tell em I'm very interested but busy atm, so to please wait on hold. Checking in every 5-10 mins to pretend I have time, but then suddenly get distracted by something important and that I'd love to hear the offer so to please wait on hold again.

Not only do you get to troll em back, but then actually lower their money for annoying you cuz it ties them up and lowers their calls per hour, which results in less monies. :D

That or heavy mouth breathing/blowing into the phone, apologizing and asking if they can hear me cuz I can't hear them. Lots of priceless methods.
