Also try 15 years - the best gear was always meant to come from bosses and thats why Rune was only level 40 to begin with.

Completely false.

It's not entirely correct but it's not false.

The best equipment was Dragon which always came from monsters.

Then it was Barrows, which came from monsters.

See a trend?

Depending on how you look at it though it could have some truth to it. But it would depend on what was going through whoever was in charge mind back when the skills were first implemented. It could be feasible that they considered something like that more than a decade or more ago but because of the sheer magnitude of effort that would require it may have put them off doing so.

So making monsters be the source of these items was the easier and much simpler option, despite the fact if it was the other way round would essentially mean skilling would work in tandem with PVM by supporting it while both playstyles can do what they enjoy.

When I started playing in 2004, all dragon weapons required a quest to be able to purchase from a vendor, Lost City or Heroes Quest.

There were only 2 pieces of dragon armour. One, the d med, was a drop.

The other, the d square, required a drop + access to the Legends guild (which was then a high level quest) + what was then a high smithing level.

If you look at how we acquired Dragon weapons & armour 15 years ago I'd say questing was the common denominator of how most of it came into the game.

I'm not saying we should go back to that. Games change, and it'd be boring if RuneScape didn't. But it's false to claim that bossing was the source of high level armour in early RS2. There was only one boss when I started playing - the KBD.

Why not both actually? Have bosses drop components, which have to be assembled with high artisan levels and raw components stemming from gathering skills? Trimmed masterwork is the perfect template for this to be honest.
Because that devalues PvM drops. Alexraptor said:

Regular MW should require bars to repair. I think the stats are fine.

My opinion is all gear should be player made and degradable, requiring the same type of resource to repair (just less of it).

I'll stop there because I don't want to derail things.

Well PvM dropped armour ruined player made equipment over 10 years ago, so wasn't it about time they fixed their mistake?
No, because endgame combat gear should come from endgame bosses.

Also try 15 years - the best gear was always meant to come from bosses and thats why Rune was only level 40 to begin with.

Love this statement as it is so wrong. End game gear was never from end game bosses. The dragon gear that was level 60 (highest at the time) was originally locked behind quests not bosses as you purchased it after that. It was only when you got to god wars dungeon gear years after the two skills where designed did high end content come from boss drops.

The skills needed the revamp then but it has been held back for years now. I do like the system where the new gear needs old items to be made, Even though some old content is now going to fall in price this will always happen when higher tier gear is released.

I do like the none degrade options as well as the need for items as it will keep bosses relevant. Do think we needed a reason to be high tier in skills other then combat.
