I suspect this is deliberate.

Consider: the entire purpose of the ore box is to reduce the need to keep banking your ores. You can carry up to 5 entire backpacks worth in the ore box. Deposit boxes also exist for that reason: a less convenient way to not have to repeatedly visit an actual bank and then return.

So the idea seems to be that after your ore box is full, you shouldn't mind making the (slightly) longer trip to an actual bank and back again, because you're still saving more time and gathering ores faster than you would if you were depending on deposit boxes alone.

Being able to not only sit at a rock and mine 140 ores (plus loose extras) and only have to make a really short hop to a nearby deposit box to empty the ore box would essentially overpower the ore box by making it functionally bottomless.

If you're mining in the vicinity of a deposit box, or drop a portable deposit box, then you can always deposit your ore without putting it into the ore box in the first place. You would need to walk over to the deposit box and go through the banking process more frequently, so it would interrupt your gathering more, but you can do that.

So to summarize:

- If you want to bank uninterrupted for long periods, the consequence is you must visit an actual bank to empty the ore box and resume gathering. Since banks are never more than a quick teleport away, this isn't really a problem.

- If you want to stay in a particular spot indefinitely, you can do that by using deposit boxes, but you'll be interrupted by the need to use those deposit boxes quite frequently.

Basically, you pick your poison - though neither are especially bad. The ore box is way more convenient because banks are quick to access through teleports, and the amount of ore you can gather in a single trip more than covers the small amount of time you'd be spending going back to your mining spot.

There is a way to get the benefit of both together: they're called Porters.

Hm.. after reading this I begrudgingly agree with it as much as I would love the ability to empty my ore box into these deposit boxes when they're available, I suppose if you think about it you are getting quite a decent benefit out of the ore boxes themselves.

Grace of the elves with porter charges? Yep. Although I am of the opinion using it on anything lower than light/dark animica is a waste of charges personally as most mining sites aren't that far from most banks.

If the max cape couldn't hold the dungeoneering cape thus giving max cape those teleports then I would include necrite; but with the teleport to Prifddinas essentially landing you smack bang in the middle inside a bank and the grand exchange there's no need for porters there either really.

Also technically you can take multiple ore boxes with you and just deposit them when they get full, then fill up the next, deposit etc.

While this sounds like a great option I think you are incorrect. According to the wiki, at any rate, holding multiple boxes in your inventory prevents usage of them.

I think he means carry more than one and when its full deposit the whole box and then use a new one, I know you can't use more than 1 at the same time. Not sure if anyone has tried his idea but it would be good if it did work.

I tried it yesterday and it kind of works but is also kind of convoluted. Take a Elder rune ore box and and a bronze ore box. Drop the bronze box everytime you wan't to fill the elder (you can't fill with 2 boxes in the same inventory), pick up the bronze box rinse and repeat.

Once the Elder is full find a portable deposit (people usually put one in the guild and at the Bane rocks in Relleka) deposit the bronze box...this then makes the elder box empty.

Has limited use imo though.
