Don't Bump This Thread

This is the proposal I'm putting forward, if a owner of a thread does not want others bumping there thread, they should have the right to have this request heed too.

The bumping word can be a god send to some threads, while others not so much - word bumps could be used to spam, troll and even too harass the owner. And since there is no rules against bumping a thread an owner has no say on others spam bumping there thread and I would like this changed.

- I propose that owners have the right to request others to not bump there threads by writing in the opening post ~don't bump this thread~ and if someone bumps there thread it will be classed as spamming, trolling, even harassment.

- It's purely asking for her/his thread not to be bumped by others throughout the duration of the thread.

This thread is not about getting a thread locked, this is a different situation.

on the contrary, they can post in Forum Help V2 (here's a nice link in case you can't bother to go find the thread yourself) to have their thread locked, since they don't want it being bumped anyway

No support, but that goes without say, doesn't it?

which you can do, by having it locked, using the very useful link I provided above

If a thread is on the first page and is being "bumped" with bump posts, then that could be considered spam.

However, if you don't want your thread to be bumped at all, the best course of action is to have it locked. There's no need to place arbitrary restrictions on bumping when it's just a tool.

Like I said prior, if one was given the ability to bump other people's threads once a day (without making a post) that could mitigate any "spammy" bump posts.
Don't forget – RuneScape members get TWO free spins a day instead of the usual one!

Most threads are for discussions, if you don't want players bumping your thread, you should have the right to ask players to not bump your thread.

Do you not realize that posting any reply on a thread, whether it only contains the word "bump" or discusses the topic, bumps the thread to the top of the first page (under stickies)?

Thus, like Chee and Miu said, if you don't want your thread to be bumped, the only way to ensure it is to ask your thread to be locked. But if you simply don't like spam in your thread, just report the spam in itself (if it actually is considered spam).

This thread is not about getting a thread locked.

This thread is about the owner of the thread being able to ask at thread creation on the opening post to not have her/his thread bumped by others. The thread hasn't even started, getting a thread locked has nothing to do with it.

It's purely asking for her/his thread not to be bumped by others throughout the duration of the thread.

No support.

There should be less rules, not more, especially rules as silly as this.

I kinda get what you mean.
But your suggestion is very easy to circumvent by making a post instead of posting 'bump'.

Also, wasnt there a rule about not making duplicate threads?
If its still a rule, bumping an existing thread on a topic might be the only option available.

I cant see what benefit this would bring tbh
