No need to change any name. The official name of what players (usually the ones in the forums and social media) called RS3 is actually Runescape. Add a guidance sticky on top of the Runescape General forum will do.

Whenever people mention Runescape, they mean RS3. At least almost every player on Reddit, FB, Twitch, Twiiter know Runescape means "RS3". They never need any hand-holding to redirect them to 2007scape or OSRS, or OldSchoolRunescape. Why? Perhaps they are just smarter than the users in these RSOF. :D

I don't think I need a crystal ball to tell if "Runescape General Forum" was changed to "RS3 General Forum" some OSRS newbies would still come there to post but then they would say "They've mistaken RS3 to OSRS since they used to know the difference between Runescape and OSRS but not RS3 and OSRS". ;)

Just saying, but stickies do nothing as ppl just dont read anything before posting sometimes.

No matter what they do, people will still post in the wrong area.

We regularly see suggestions in FGU, and account help posts in General. The correct sub-forums are well signposted and yet people still get it wrong.

Pretty much.

If the current "help" isnt useful enough, what good would even more do?...

I appreciate that, however the threads might not be misplaced in the first place if the forum simply said RS3 in the title. Its such a simple fix that would not be hard to implement at all and would relieve confusion on where to post if the topic involves OSRS and not RS3.

If sticky threads arent any use to deter the issue, how would this be any better?

Yes, it would be bad because a truly new Runescape player would really have no idea RS3 is Runescape. RS3 is not the official name of Runescape. If you put RS3 instead of Runescape in all the Jagex websites, games etc it would only confuse the truly new players.

To make things worse, those fake RS3 newbies would pretend that they did not know RS3 was Runescape. More would come and claim they thought RS3 was OSRS.

Jagex use the Runescape game name to refer to the RS3 that most not-quite-new Runescape players know in all other social media and friend sites, etc. None of these sites ever have to change Runescape to RS3 but almost all their users, veterans or really really news one included hardly stumbled into the wrong place to post. That tell you a lot of thing about this RSOF already.

Exactly.

If OSRS users are so confused they can't find the correct OSRS forums to post, why don't they just suggest to isolate Forums from their Community Category just like how Forums are shown next to but not inside Community in the Jagex homepage?

OSRS users are supposed to follow OSRS news, updates and use the OSRS GE, Hiscores, forums and such. This is the page, not the Jagex home page, they should visit very often:

https://oldschool.runescape.com/#_ga=2.188516136.1800737842.1536325836-1080454618.1498157815

If they put Forums outside Community, it should definitely help the confused OSRS users to post in the right place. To make it even clearer, why not change "Forums" to "Old School Forums" under the OSRS home page?

Nah even then theyd still do it probably for shits and giggles.

Yes, I know the "confused" OSRS ones deliberately post in the RS3 forums will still be "confused" but I am just giving the Jmods the idea OSRS forum issues (if they are legitimate issues) should be addressed within the OSRS webpage

Yet why do anything if it still wouldnt fix the "problem"?
