Yeah keep in mind the Charos stuff took place generations ago, probably in the Fourth Age, so whoever Charos is would have to be pretty old and/or not have an established backstory. We have stories of Dionysus in his childhood, so he is almost certainly not Charos.

i mean the quest also implies castle fenkenstrain didn't belong to charos and that uri buried charos which would be a huge lorefail but whatever

According to Charos's Journal:

Castle Fenkenstrain belonged to Lady Relobrae to whom Charos gave his ring after she gave him shelter from Drakan (said castle would later be inherited by the Lordship of the North Coast and later still by Fenkenstrain, with the ring passing between the hands of the owners and the idea of Charos once having owned the castle following along with it).

Uri buried a construct of Charos's likeness at the behest of what appeared to be Charos's widow but who was really Charos. After this, Charos took on a new identity.

Random humans building a castle in Morytania and surviving there for so long without the help of Charos's magic doesn't make any sense. The whole point of the ring is that it stopped the werewolves.

There have been at least 4 (probably 15, if it was originally Charos's castle) lords of the north coast since Charos left Morytania. Lord Drakan would have left for Vampyrium and stopped caring about Charos long ago too. We saw Uri acting as undertaker for Duke Horacio, so we can rule out Uri being super old and encountering Charos hundreds of years ago before getting cursed. Plus his dialogue in the quest himself implies that Charos was already a legendary figure.

Charos taking hundreds of years to travel from Darkmeyer to Catherby doesn't make any sense, neither does him surviving that long. His journal indicates that he only after faking his death that he took an interest in trying to outlive death, too.

The issue of Castle Fenkenstrain was that the residents weren't paying their blood tithes. Lady Rolobrae could have very well been human so long as she paid the tithes as demanded until she got the ring from Charos (then being better able to protect the denizens of the castle and surrounding areas in order to establish the Lordship of the North Coast).

Who said Uri was super old? I have no issue with the events involving him occuring fairly recently.

Why does the number of Lords of the North since Charos left matter, and how can you even determine that number from the events in the journal/quest? Charos had no knowledge or way to acquire the knowledge that Drakan was on Vampyrium (even Vanescula didn't know that) and had no reason to expect a nigh immortal vampyre to stop holding a grudge (particularly if Charos was immortal himself prior to fleeing)

According to Charos's Journal, the priest at the Salve stopped him from passing because Charos lingered in memory (indicating that he was a legendary figure even prior to that and hinting that he'd already lived a long enough to think he'd be forgotten).

Why is it nonsensical that Charos could have evaded capture for so long and traveled over a long period of time? By his own admission:

'The mercenaries did not stop hunting for me, as I hoped. Sure, with my brooch I could hide without chance of being found, but the blackguards were killing craftsmen over the age of fifty. After a time, it began to wear on the conscience.'

Charos, at least, is under the impression that he could hide forever, and only decides to fake his own death as a result of a guilty conscious after a period of people getting killed for matching his profile. He then made his construct and released it into a village by White Wolf Mountain (likely Edgeville) where it was killed and the man hunt ended.

I personally take Charos's last line in the journal to mean that he's eager to no longer be hunted or otherwise have his life threatened.

My point is that it's been hundreds of years since Charos fell out of favour with Drakan, but Uri apparently buried him extremely recently, long past a human lifespan, long past Charos being assumed dead, and long past the point Drakan would have even been around on Gielinor. And the point of the ring of Charos was to stop the werewolves, not the vampyres.

Original message details are unavailable.
Fenkenstrain's Monster: It was my birthright, passed down to me through the ages, its origin forgotten.
Wise Old Man: But I don't believe that you should worry about that - it has been many years since his disappearance, and the likelyhood is that he is dead.
Reldo: It is entirely possible that Charos is still alive. He was in service to the vampyres' ruler, Lord Drakan, and though the histories indicate that Charos fell out of his master's favour, vampirism has a nasty habit of allowing unscrupulous individuals to keep living, or, rather, not living.

Because he could still be caught by Lord Drakan if he went back, and anyone recognizing his scent found him.

Way too risky should something go wrong with his illusions.

Drakan believes him to be dead and his funeral carried out. He's no longer looking for him. And about the scent....Fenkenstrain legit freaks out that the werewolves will recognize his scent after you take the ring of charos from him.
I have seen the dark universe yawning, where the black planets roll without aim;
Where they roll in their horror unheeded, without knowledge or lustre or name.

Osborne made a comment about the Charos timeline on reddit.

Original message details are unavailable.
Spoilers ahead.

I had a timeline broken into two chunks: one in the Fourth Age, with Charos escaping Drakan. Then things go quiet as he finds a life in the west, likely prolonged by wish magic, before Drakan finds him again in the Fifth Age and he has to fake his death.

I have noticed your kind does tend to blindly stumble forward towards danger simply because it exists. What is your word for that?

Long past a normal human lifespan, but he evidently wasn't restricted to the timeline of an average human life as was evident by the events written in the journal and was confirmed by Osbourne.

Charos wasn't assumed dead though. His journal details that mercenaries were still killing people that matched his profile up until he faked his own death.

Yes, Drakan wouldn't have been on Gielinor, but how would Charos have known that? As I already pointed out, not even Drakan's closest family knew he was on Vampyrium (they just assumed he was locked up in his room).

The ring does block scent, yes, but it also works a great deal toward bending weak minds to obey you. The letter from Creature of Fenkenstrain, however, also indicates that there was indeed the issue of blood tithes (for which we've witnessed werewolves (who are affected by the ring's manipulation) act as collectors) that the Lordship only started paying again at the Doctor's request. We also know that Port Phasmatys had similar demands for blood tithes that led to them turning to Necrovarus' assisstance and the town becoming ghosts.

Dissy being Charos would cause a few issues with mechanics, so realistically it couldn't be him anyway. Aside from that, I don't think he fills the roles that Charos wanted. Dionysius seems more interested in robbing people and getting rich than in wishbringing.

Uri himself could fit the role, except that whole mess seems convoluted if they try to make that work. What's more, Uri just gives out treasure, he doesn't bring wishes.

The only person I know of who can "grant wishes" is Pauline Polaris...

Wise Old Man: Indeed. Charos had many uses - spy, assassin, negotiator - because he could convince anyone to do his wishes. These talents were in some part Charos's own, but greatly enhanced by the ring that he fashioned.

Convince anyone to do his wishes..
Livid Farm being a comp req..

.... Pauline = Charos, confirmed. Close the thread. Mystery solved.

You guys are missing the obvious. Charos wants to be a wishmaker. He gave Uri three wishes. Genies typically give three wishes.

Charos is Solomon.

Mod Osborne favourited my tweet saying so, so it is confirmed.
