Honestly the trope doesn't bother me that much. Sometimes it's just used for cheap sympathy, but I think it's mostly done well. The kin for example are much cooler as a near-extinct race, and Bandos has a kickass backstory of killing everything with meteors.

What's more annoying is when previously extinct races are suddenly revealed to be alive. That can be done well too, but it's much harder to pull off.

I have noticed your kind does tend to blindly stumble forward towards danger simply because it exists. What is your word for that?
- We call it being a hero.

where exactly does it say the Icyene are dying out?

Wouldn't Salafaan be in the list too?
A human, icyene, vampyre hybrid.

Some old lore released with the first GWD IIRC, and the outdated game guide.

YES.
There SHOULD be a solid timeline. Do you have any idea how many inconsistencies there are with how smart/stupid strong/weak brave/wimpy etc. the Player Character is? I love the humor but sometimes the level of inconsistency is absurd, even by the standards Jagex sets for themselves with other updates!
And don't even get me start on the inconsistencies of how we read Xau-Tak's name in Sliske's book, yet Jagex has the nerve to tell me that when V mentions him to us in Hero's Welcome, we can canonically do that AFTER Kindred Spirits and the character says NOTHING?!
You can't tell me that your canon can say you did Lord of Vampyrium.. and killed Lowerniel Drakan BEFORE doing Death to the Dorge'shuun where you struggle to kill a freakin' guy in pink robes. That is inconsistency beyond redemption.

I disagree. I don't think it's some big problem. The point was always that it's your story and you play it the way you want. Runescape has always been about freedom to do what the heck you want and, with some exceptions (like the 5th vs 6th age), I see no reason to limit the story by trying to add a forced linear order to a bunch of unrelated stories.

Keep your headcanon-linear timeline, but it's completely unnecessary to force one and only one on everyone. If you desperately want one canon timeline then the closest you'll get is release order with some exceptions.

And come on, nobody struggled against Sigmund. The only people who'd struggle against him would be low-lvls (even that's a big if), which the quest was designed for seeing as it is intermediate, and they wouldn't have done LoV anyway.
