We are given reapers tasks, slayer tasks and if something goes wrong with Death, Who Ya Ganna Call?

Us of course!

With this in mind I have decided on a mental exercise to use this to try and fix the worst excuse for a multi-character Dungeoneering solo party beta that has ever been shoehorned into a quest. It had more holes than a crochet jumper. The questline's story, sacrificed on the alter of convenience.

I am of course, talking about Salt in the Wound.

There should have been torture. There should have been betrayal. Our back should have had more White knives shoved in it than a hedgehog has spines. There should have been death!

Now we all know that Death cannot take someone before their time. Yet he has asked us to get rid of a few beasties to help balance his books. What if he took it one step further?

On to the tinfoil hat idea^_^ It's not paranoia if everyone really is out to get you!

Saradomin has a problem, there is something rotten in the ranks and he intends to ask you, as an outsider, to investigate. Unfortunately they beat him to the punch and the meeting place, well it's not the one he set. And so we have the torture, the betrayal, and the knife in the back. A little known fact about torture is that it can cause recall problems over who was doing it, sometimes.

So we know something bad happened, and Death thinks the idea was to drive us mad so that it no longer mattered if we respawned, we'd just drool. Death knows it is not our time and for a while he says it was touch and go, but he manages to revive us. We were just nuts enough already to reverse the damage! ^_^

Now he knows someone is trying to interfere with the order of things in a big way. And after all that has happened to him. After all the stress Sliske has put him through lately he has snapped. He solved the problem by making you Death's Apprentice. A temporary fix. You get to construct a "Training Scyth", investigate, locate the targets and get deal with them once and for all. Deliver any souls to the Afterlife.

Death may not be able to take action himself, so now he wants you to rip them a new one on his behalf and make sure no one else follows in their footstep. Getting to the end of it you get a pat on the head from Death, and maybe Papa Smurf, if didn't go Freddy Krueger on everyone! O_o

That's how I would do it anyway. What about you?

Here we can work out the how and why of things continuing as they should of. As well as how far Death really can bend his rules.

Are we already Death's Apprentice? He does ask us to kill for him.

Could it be him turning a blind eye to our respawning for his own purposes? Or is he just taking advantage of the situation?

Don't be shy. Post away! :)

Harold, you are one lazy lazy twit. There are literally billions of mortals out there and at least hundreds whose time has come as of this moment. Yet you sit there and do nothing "because I'm the reaper and I claim the souls of everything I touch including my dog the chair and this paperwork". Who cares about the souls of the inanimate! Get your backside into gear (the gear lacks a soul too) and do something. Icthlarin is running himself to oblivion trying to guide the souls to the afterlife while defending against Amascut, Sliske, Xau-Tak and a plethora of necromancers while dodging past more powerful gods trying to kill him for easy points, and you sit there and do nothing. And now you're getting me to reap souls for you, after making me run around sorting out your Halloween party? You're the Grim Reaper and a Guardian of Guthix. Do your job. Prepare for hell on RuneScape in Naval Cataclysm!

Oh please, half of Runescape does that. Oh noes I need a cake, plese make me one! On noes my cats are missing, please find them! Oh noes I need item X, please get it for me! The list goes on...and on...and on...

But we make cash, cha-ching! and we steal anything that isn't nailed down. And then come back for the nails in post quest content. ^_^

Why should Death be any less lazy? His whole job seems to be severing souls from bodies and nothing more. Or is he supposed to do more than that?

I think all the Guardians of Guthix should be as proactive in helping us become the best World Guardian we can be.
Think about it, Death was already used once as bait to lure both Icthlarin and us to "Sliskes Grand Ascendancy." If anything, Death is putting in a failsafe incase anything should happen to him again, slowly nurturing us to fulfill his duties in his absence.
What if someone gets the bright idea to kidnap Juna? What if someone else tries to use Valluta to open a giant portal and bring a pest queen through? We're the World Guardian, Guthix trusted us to basically fulfill his own duties, and overseeing the Guardians of Guthix is part of that role.
A
World Guardian
must learn to find
Balance
in themselves.
Only then can they
Control
themselves and forge their own
Fate.

Well, if Vallutta, Juna or Fiara goes missing, nothing's stopping Chaeldar, Occelus or any other guardian from stepping in temporarily.
Death however, his role is a bit more precious.

what if we are death.

Player goes back in time, becomes the first person to die on Runescape.
They default become first Grim Reaper.
Player takes the name Harold as an alias.
Fast forward, you meet yourself.
you train yourself.
Some point, you get sent back in time again, die.

So, uh, what I got out of this is that Salt in the Wound needed more hedgehogs.

I'm not sure the lack of hedgehogs was the problem with the quest. :P

All jokes aside, nah, we're not his apprentice. Just think of it as temporary hired help. I think he would be rather upset with me if I was his apprentice, yet skipped out on reaper tasks for days because it was Castle Wars spotlight time.
