... I don't see how the makeover mage isn't canon. Because his (just going to use male pronouns for simplicity's sake) purpose is mainly gameplay related? Oh, well then half the game is non-canon.

I'd like to point out that he is limited to human form. Unlike other shapeshifters it doesn't seem like he can transform into another species. There are loads of people more skilled than him. He found some random amulet and memorised the spell, that hardly seems like a master. A master would know far more than that. So, yeah, I'd consider him a dabbler.

Side Note: What's the difference between shapeshifting and transmogrification? Is Malignius turning us into a toadstool considered shapeshifting?

I have noticed your kind does tend to blindly stumble forward towards danger simply because it exists. What is your word for that?
- We call it being a hero.

I would say over 90% of any game is noncanon, but that seems not to be a popular opinion
in mandarin the male pronoun can be used for either gender if the gender is unknown or unimportant

I agree that there's a seperation between gameplay and story, and of course there's a lot of stuff that should be considered non-canon, but I don't believe the make-over mage should be one of them. He has a role in at least two quests, and an established backstory. What I do agree is not canon though is that people don't seem to notice we change gender.

I don't think Helwyr is a good choice for a master, but not because he's a boss. He gained his powers from absorbing the essence of the Hunleff. I doubt he has much knowledge of shapeshifting apart from shifting between his natural form and that of the Hunleff. -
