When you die he just brings you to his house and says "yeah it's not your time, get outta here you skamp" and slaps you on the bum. This feels like unfair special treatment on his part, and saying it's not your time feels like wink wink nudge nudge type behaviour. What do you think? woof

That is propably the reason most other things respawn. Maybe our permanent death would be abusing his powers?

I get the feeling the reason he takes our cash and stuff when we pass through his office is out of extreme annoyance. Now that is probably abusing his powers, but whatever. No one asks what he does with all the stuff he takes though... The purpose of adventure is to shine light into dark places,

I'd say it's worse that he keeps an undead hellhound as a pet. That... doesn't seem like something he'd be allowed to do. -
I have noticed your kind does tend to blindly stumble forward towards danger simply because it exists. What is your word for that?
- We call it being a hero.

Who's going to stop him, Guthix?

But in any case, I think there's a couple little places (like One of a Kind) that imply that those who still have some role to play in things respawn. Like the KBD, apparently. What role he has to play, I've no idea, but it seems we aren't that special and unique in thisr egard.

Has anyone considered that no one knows why certain entities are respawning in defiance of all natural logic. Has any one realised that like any bushwhacking yokel, since the first that crawled out of the trees and saw the night sky, that they are just howling at the moon and making stuff up to explain it? What?

Anyways isn't it stated, multiple times, that it's simply not our time yet?

I'm more concerned with how monsters and bosses respawn, perhaps for the same reason?

In short: No.

You misunderstand the role and powers of the Reaper in Gielinor completely. He doesn't get to decide who lives and who dies.. he's as much a slave to destiny as we are. I believe it's in The World Wakes that Death explains this to us himself. He is unable to take the life of a being whose time has not come; likewise, he is unable to save a person whose time has come, no matter how much he may wish to do so.

The idea of him charging us money is more of a game mechanic than lore, but I think I can make a quick guess. Death is a Guardian of Guthix (as is the World Guardian), and the entire point of the Guthixian dogma is Balance. As a predestined person of great importance, we defy that balance when we die but are not dead. As such, rather than giving up our soul, we must give up something of physical value to be taken out of the world, to maintain a balance that was broken when we defied the normal laws of death.
A
World Guardian
must learn to find
Balance
in themselves.
Only then can they
Control
themselves and forge their own
Fate.
