I doubt Mallum is related to Xau-Tak tbh. She seems to have her own motivations and goals, seperate from Xau-Tak. Everything she did, she did for herself and her "family". I doubt she'd (willingly) follow a higher power. Unless, of course, she's some kind of pawn. -

What about the Dagannoth? The Fremennik and Moon Clan have been fighting them for a long time and Xau-Tak seems to haunt dreams, like they did at Blood Runs Deep. What's more, there is also the prophecy:

All-consuming darkness will rise from the sea, unleashed by Good Intent.
The lost Mother is dead, her Daughter risen in her place.
Wits and Skills will bring the Light; fate does not dictate.
When the tide is strongest, Good Intent will be needed once more.
And his/her name will be [Fremennik Name].

The first part of it, an all-consuming darkness rising from the sea, could also reference the Underwater City as mentioned by Socky McGee. And also, if the Bandos vs Xau-Tak theory is to be confirmed, the hobgoblins may have been stationed there to keep people away from the darkness of the ocean. And then there are the mogres, bred by Bandos to live in the sea. Could they have been bred to fight against Xau-Tak's armies?

The scariest thing about Xau-Tak is that Bandosian creatures are literally everywhere and not just in the ocean. The hobgoblins in particular seem to be stationed around coasts, islands and peninsulas, and then there is the Geomancer in Daemonheim. That along with the clean Fremennik man that Thok mentioned meeting on Floor 61 suggests that the Rift is there, and Xau-Tak is literally scraping its edges with its tendrils along with whatever's in the sea.

Oh it pretty much has to happen with Robert eventually, so I don't think it's a pointless discussion (even then, we have tons of those). I mean, the main reason it popped up here was because of the possibility it could happen with Xau-Tak's story (though I seriously doubt it).
Actually they said on the Lore Corner they weren't planning to do any time-travel shenanigans with Robert's story, I do believe?

How would you even do that?

He literally leaves a note for us to give to himself when he's human that tells him how to even get to Kethsi in the first place (otherwise he'd already know about DIRAKS).

He even seems to tell himself to put DIRAKS on his collar in the first place (not to mention what appears to be instructions for his reincarnation).

I mean even if we somehow turn Bob back into a human, he still somehow knew a lot about future events that hints at some time-based shenanigans.
Oh? So he leaves us a note, okay. Let's look at the start of that note.

Dear adventurer,
Welcome to Kethsi. I'm sorry that I have no means of knowing your name.

So we went back in time with him... but he has no means of knowing our name? Seems legit.

Not really all that much of a stretch if I am honest. 2 of 3 options during TLW have us not ever tell Guthix our name, and we are never even given a chance to tell Haluned our name. Heck even in Meeting History, our name only ever comes up in the post-quest dialogue about naming Herblore (and we never actually explained that it was out name).
You're derping on the context. It's not that we didn't tell him.. HE HAS NO MEANS OF KNOWING. The only way to have no means of knowing would mean he doesn't knows us.. because we were never there!

You're assuming that we'll have some nice long discussion with the guy, or an adventure. The only thing we've been instructed to do is give him a note.

There is practically no way Robert's story could work without time travel (though what kind is anyone's guess), seriously. Even if past Robert knew the future then that doesn't explain how he tells himself to do stuff he's already done, and knows... And there's even a date in the notes. It's blatantly obvious once you actually connect the dots. Seriously, take a close look at the notes. I trust I don't have to spell it all out.

So we had a brief chat with him using the Enchanted Key? It's even possible that the Magisters in Teragard stop people from using their names. (*ahem* Yubaba from Spirited Away)

That would be disturbing... You also have the cyclopes in the east, not far from the underwater city...

Anyways, sea slug do have a connection with pirate series, they appear in Rum Deal.

I suspect Mallum is a creature of Xau-Tak. A very lowly one.

Yet she still managed to dominate other worlds before she entered Gielinor and was squished as a result.

Now he's sending his Ambassador, something with real power. Perhaps even beyond Telos. Yet still just an Ambassador.

I'm not sure. A few years back when the MahMem came out Mod Jack made a post that he implied that Mother Mallum was a cthonian, but wanted to leave it open for other developers.

Since Mod Wilson has been developing Xua-Tak for years before that then there was a period where Mother Mallum, at least in developer eyes, was unconnected to Xua-Tak.

Of course all this is subject to change, but if Mother Mallum is indeed related to Xua-Tak, then this would be a relatively new developmental direction.

Really, of Demonkind? I don't see that in her at all, even comparing her to Senecianus, she seems very comparable to a slug, not a random array of appendages.

They're also immensely difficult to kill, she died rather...well, as we all know pathetically easy and smushed.

I can't see a slug like creature coming from the boiling pits of hell that is Infernus.

What can I say lol... I'm not a developer.

But I guess what I could offer is that bloodvelds are also Cthonians and they are weak AF.

You also got to keep in mind that the Slug Queen was pumping out millions of babies. (There was a post from the hedge that said she was making one slug per person on gielinor) Those babies can't be coming from nowhere. "Nothing can come from Nothing." Thus they probably have to be coming from her own power, which would make her seriously weaker.

Also it's possible that Mother Mallum wasn't even born on Infernus. Her own spawn creator could have spawned her on any world post-demon pacts.

Did anyone else get a line of ravens and Korp when they crossed the bridge in the underworld? Does that have anything to do with this?
That's another Ravensworn thing. It's actually a line of crows, and the one Raven at the end who says "You are not prepared" (or something along those lines) in a foreign language.
