Allow me to speculate:

Jas's answer regarding Seren was interesting. The notion that she could "be more," when Zaros's claims and requests were shot down is definitely interesting. Yesterday, I read on the forums somewhere that all of the Elders were female (a fact we were all well aware of), and that this may be a prerequisite of being an Elder.

So... What if Seren takes up Mah's mantle? What if it's forced upon her, and she's not happy about it? What if this is a large event leading to her odd demise? What if it's what causes Zaros to commit the action that destroys him? Thoughts?

I'd personally dislike this, seeing as how I'm a hardcore supporter of Zaros, though it makes sense. I'd like to think that Jagex isn't quite done with Zaros though, given that they've been leading up to his return for years now.

Not as familiar with this area of the lore as I could be, but I think it'd make sense for the one who cared for and eventually killed Mah to be the one to replace her (if that's even possible). Seren was far more intrinsically linked with Mah. Zaros would rather have had nothing to do with her, and just wants to leap in to fill the empty spot -- even though it's not really one he can fit into.

I think the "female prerequisite" thing is somewhat off the mark, though. The Elder Gods, and Zaros and Seren, don't really have gender -- no dimorphism in reproduction, so no basis for it. I haven't done much in the way of Elder God lore quests, but it's corroborated somewhat in canon by Heart of Stone -- I remember, talking to Ariane after the quest, there's a line describing Jas going something like "she, if she is even the right word..." And outside the game, there's this tidbit from the 2014 Lore Forum Q&A by Mod John A (which I brought up in another "Seren/Zaros and gender stuff" thread earlier today, seems to be getting a lot of mileage hahah).

Original message details are unavailable.
The Elder Gods *don't* really have a gender in the same way as humans do, but "she" is their preferred pronoun rather than "he" or "it". The same probably applies to Zaros and Seren as well - they might not have gender themselves, but when they observed mortal languages they would decide whether they wanted to be treated as male or female for the purposes of language.

Not necessarily canon, but certainly makes sense. Means that for Zaros, gender's not something he has innately, only a matter of choice. Would he choose to be female as part of a ploy for Elder Godhood (or in a denial-induced sulk)? I don't think he'd see it as much of a factor. And I doubt the Elder Gods would care either way. They aren't necessarily female, they just are.

No, female identity being a prerequisite for Elder godhood would be colossally stupid. None of these beings have a gender; making the distinction between Zaros and Seren based on that is beyond meaningless.

The fact that Jas responded differently to Seren almost certainly has some other cause. Maybe it has to do with how she's not driven by ambition/avarice.

I doubt Seren will be forced into Elder godhood by doing absolutely nothing to show she deserves to be one.

Jas wouldn't turn her into one just to spite or be sexist to Zaros, and so far Seren isn't doing anything, like trying to create life to prove an Elder god wrong, to show she deserves to be as them.

Will it be a race between the two to see who can create the most lifelike, sentient, excuse for life? That would be fascinating. But I have a feeling the Player would have a ton of input in that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Zaros and Seren are put in a position where you have to choose which one of them gets to be an Elder God. It may still be possible for Zaros to ascend, but right now, Seren may have the advantage.

...Why does Seren have the advantage exactly?

Jas's words on both of them carry the message that they could be more than they are now.

She refers to Zaros as a child and 'not Mah.' Both are objectively true, but a child is capable of growing into an adult.

She says that Seren is nothing, but that she could be more.

In either case, I doubt she is saying that they could become elder gods, given she says that a flame can never become a star no matter how bright it burns (that's not to say she is right about that assessment, just that it is what she believes). As a result, I think she sees a different kind of potential in the two of them.

If either of them has the advantage, it's Zaros he's already been assessed as being a child, which is more than just 'nothing,' and is actually seeking a way to ascend (Seren is not).

Oh man, here's something I just remembered, and it's absolutely relevant to this thread.

A flame cannot become a star, but
Seren is Welsh for "star".

Perhaps that wording will come to be very meaningful down the line...!

I keep saying this, and I'll keep spouting it until I'm proved wrong, but I honestly think that Zaros is going to try and obtain Elder Godhood by force, and fail, dying in the process, because he can't contain the power, possibly destroying a large area in doing so.

To repair the damage wrought by him, the Elders will help Seren ascend, and help her contain her power, and heal the damage that he did, and she'll be super happy, and there will be a pretty elven song that will make us cry, and she'll die.

You have to let go of who you love. I'm certain there are souls just like you out there who lost their god like Guthix, Bandos... Don't gulp this point pâté in one go, danger of choke!
