Why. Why is the skeletal horror so important?
Why have the cave horrors modeled the black masks after it's skull?
Why does the skeletal horror's skull speak to the Odd Old Man???

Xau-Tak.

Xau-Tak is the key to this, this whole conspiracy starting in 2005, coincidentally the year Slayer was released, one way to gain the horror's bones to reconstruct the skeleton!

I propose that the skeletal horror IS......not Xau-Tak, but an image for his followers to worship while he was away. If the horror was alive in the third age, then this makes sense, Xau-Tak would have been banished by guthix!
The Skeletal Horror i believe is the Avatar Of Xau-Tak, Xau-Tak speaks through it and rules through it. The cave horrors are necromantic and have masks in the skull's shape. They might have been a people, Xau-Tak's people, until they were driven by the God Wars into that cave where they dwindled.

This is why the skull spoke to the Odd Old Man, why it wanted bones, to return to Gielinor!

V knew this, and we aided it. We let it happen.

Also, the Skeletal Horror's tail looks like and moves like that of a Monkey, and the other Horrors are said to be Ape-Like, maybe the Skeletal Horror was a high priest of Xau-Tak and it was chosen to be his Avatar, hence the cave horror masks?

There's already a thread with this exact same theory? One you have previously posted on?

Why create a new one?
You never were our brightest star, Khazard. 'Vermin slaughtered like lambs'? What does that even mean?

I can make a thread about the bananas if i wish to can I not?
I mean we have this HUGE thread about it, and these posts would be better posted on that thread. It doesn't make sense to make another Xau-Tak thread when we have a big and currently active one.

the person wanted a more specific thread, talking more about the skeletal horror than about xau-tak
if someone wanted to make a thread specifically about azzanadra you wouldnt tell them 'there's already a thread about zaros, just put it there' or a thread about anything and say 'just out it in the lore forum thread, our lives will literally end if we have more than one thread in this forum'

He's right. That Xau-Tak thread is about Xau-Tak. The Skeletal Horror is only a piece of this puzzle.. but a piece worthy of note.

Let's look at what we know. Archibald Paldock (better known as the Odd Old Man) was part of an expedition, funded by the Varrock Museum, to the Island of Mos Le'Harmless. The purpose was to look for rare bones, some of which were brought to the attention of the Museum by various adventurers (many of whom accompanied the expedition). They set sail the 19th of Pentember, arriving 2 days later.
The expedition wasn't what you would call fun, but to make a long story short, this is what happened: The archaeologists found a giant skull "As large as an adult dragons, but ape-like in appearance." Finding the other bones to put it back together became priority, and Archibald was kept awake by dreams of a "Mysterious Power" talking to him. Eventually he decided that they were "missing the point" and stole the bones and skull, taking them with him back to the mainland. He's caught trying to sneak away on what is presumably a Pirate ship, but the Skull for some reason scares the pirates into not only leaving him unharmed, but dropping him off close to shore. The last entry is his journal states
Now the Great Power wants more bones. Lots of bones! Clean bones! Bones everywhere!

This of course, is where we come in. We collect all the bones to reconstruct the thing, defeat it, and free Archibald of the horror's control.
We presume this Great Power to be Xau-Tak, and I believe that to be true. But what's interesting is his ability to talk through the object, and even control Paldock. Is it possible that Xau-Tak, like Bandos, made the Skeletal Horror to be an avatar of his power, able to exist within the Barrier of Edicts? If so, when we defeated it, did we weaken him? Or by reconstructing it each week, are we allowing him to gain more and more power in Gielinor?
