Zaros:
Pre-CoM, I considered myself super loyal to the guy, I'd do anything for him, no questions asked. I thought of him the way Azzanadra thought of him, as this amazing, awesome, One True God. Post-CoM, I've started to...remove these rose coloured glasses; I suspect Zaros wasn't who I thought he was. I used to think he really wanted to...*ahem* make the Mahjarrat race great again based on his FotG dialogue, but his actions in CoM...well, they speak for themselves. Seren's actions started the decline of a proud, glorious, unique irreplaceable race. The Mahjarrat rightfully call her out, and how does Zaros react? he stars white knighting her (way to show that you care about the Mahjarrat race, Zaros). And that got me wondering--are you that slavishly devoted to her? Is there anything you’d put before her? Are you really going to pick her over…whatever the other option was, no matter how important?

Zamorak:
Pre-CoM, I had a strawman view of him; I saw him as this 100% evil guy, who did evil things for the lulz, who betrayed Zaros because he wanted to destroy everything good in this world. Post-CoM, I'm more...sympathetic towards him, especially after his line "know that everything I did, it was for the Mahjarrat." How can I hate a guy who just wants to reverse the decline of his people? The Mahjarrat are on the brink of extinction (if Enakhra dies, it's all over), and especially after knowing that this guy gave it all for his tribe, how can I continue hating him?

Zaros is in it for Zaros. If his lips are moving then he is probably lying if they don't then he's hiding something from you.

I'm still technically Zarosian (haven't officially changed my faction in-game) but I just thought of this:

How do you know if Zaros is lying? He's moving his lips.

Zamorak has earned my respect, but it is still one of the gods I dislike the most. Yes, he was willing to give his power to all the Mahjarrat, and it is quite clear that everything he did in the end was to help them grow and improve themselves.

However, that doesn't take away from everything else he has done. The wilderness was created by him using the SoJ in what I see as a suicide attempt when he lost. This not only killed the few remaining troops he had left alive, but wiped out part of a continent and killed basically everything else living in the area.

He has also shown an inability to properly get his followers to follow his philosophy. Many of his followers see him as an evil god and act likewise. While this isn't entirely his fault with Saradomin's followers spreading many lies about what he actually stands for, he hasn't done anything significant since his return to try to change that.

Zaros on the other hand once has my support, but with every appearance he becomes more and more suspicious. I'm still willing to work with him but will take everything he says with a grain of salt, and if the option appears once the Elder gods are dealt with, I will kill him. If the option to kill him comes up in SE I may take it, depending on the situation.

^This. Lots of good points raised.

Yes, Zamorak wanted to make the Mahjarrats numerous again, but his intentions doesn't change the fact he's done some bad things (just like with Seren).

Except I'm not gonna kill Zaros. If the worst happens, I'll just be like "screw you guys, I'm quitting the faction." From then, I'd literally be factionless and unaligned with anyone; I'd be working for no one's interests but my own; I'd be truly independent.

All excellent ideas, but so far nobody with the power to do so has actually stepped up to put any of them in motion. Well, Xenia did, and I supported her, but Ariane just had to go and kill her...

Xenia's plan was terrible IMO. It'd result in no magic. No more Wizards' Tower or the Wizards' Guild. No more characters being connected to magic, no more storylines involving magic. Can you imagine that? It'd be a less rich story, that's for sure.

(And keep in mind that Ariane's entire character is "I wanna study and investigate all kinds of magic, so I can learn it." She wouldn't have a reason to exist if there was no magic, so she did what she had to do).

defiantly not that lunatic...i follow Zaros religiously in game, but i don't threaten to kill people in rl if they something bad about him lmao

what even happened to him?

I know you're not him. I was joking. (Thanks for taking it so well and not raging at me :)).

I think he died. Or got permanently committed to an insane asylum.

This is an unfounded theory from a mage who hasn't even mastered the basic spellbook and is contradicted by two much more credible sources (Lunar Clan and Zaros). At best, it's false. At worst, it's moot since we can magic in Freneskae which has little to no anima.

Anima is constantly being generated by living things and if the prescense of one mortal on Freneskae generates enough anima to use magic, then we don't have an issue. The only problem with Xenia's plan is that it's not permanent and you would need to schedule this ritual of removing anima indefinetly or until a solution to killing the Elders once and for all is found.

But even if Xenia wanted to keep a constant vaccum that was constantly taking every little bit of anima without pause, anyone with an artifact is immune to this. Since the WG has the measure, we can still use magic and that's all that matters.

You are right about the Freneskae thing. Even with gameplay and storyline segregation, it's still possible to do magic on Freneskae. The Final Ritual from CoM, I think that was magic based, and Zaros and Zamorak were able to fire spells at each other.

But why would you want to stop other Gielinoreans from using magic?

@ Hazeel Humans have an affinity for Divination. Invention has just come to the fore and if magic vanished tomorrow, I am sure Invention would pick up the slack in short order.

I get that divination is basically putting the memory wisps (Anima from the anti-god barrier + Guthix' memories) back into Gielinor after it started bleeding out after Guthix's death. How does invention line up with the lore of the game?

@Hazeel Once again, you're right about humans and magic. We're not a magical race, we can do magic, but we have to train a lot harder to do so (unlike Mahjarrat and demons) and a lot of us can't because the Wizards' Tower and Guild holds a monopoly on magic.

But it's not like that everywhere. The Moon Clan is an entire tribe that relies heavily on magic. What would they do? And I can't help but wonder what Ariane (I'm sorry, I'm biased here I'll admit that, she's an NPC I like) would do in the face of that, and for their sake (all their sake not just Ariane, I don't want the Moon Clan to lose their way of life), I'm going to say "yeah, we need magic."

But seriously, this is why we need another Saradomin quest where we get to Teragard. I want to see if we're capable of building robots, the elves in Prifddinas could. :P

I'd love a Teragard quest too, not "because invention" (sorry, that's my least favourite skill, it's on par with that minigame dungeoneering IMO) but because I'd like to visit the plane where my race originated and learn more about my heritage.
