In "The Lord Of Vampyrium" (rest of the thread contains semi-spoilers, so please play the quest first),
Drakan states once he has a hold of Safalaan that the killer of Safalaan's father is one of his(Safalaan's) allies. Since his mother was of course a pure-blooded icyene, or so we are led to believe, his father must have been human. In the timeframe that Safalaan's father was alive, for him to have been killed by one of the members of the myreque, he must have been a vyre.

Next. there is a single vyre that the player has killed who used to be a part of the myreque, but who sacrificed himself so that the sanguinesti region could be evacuated. A vyre who lived in the right period of time to have been Safalaan's father. A vyre by the name of Vanstrom Klaus.

This might also, since the player killed him with blisterwood, grown from the tree of his dead(or maybe locked up in castle drakan) lover. The last part's not so certain, but it's almost certainly linked. Plus, how else would Vanstrom have known Safalaan half half-icyenic?

Feel free to leave extra theories, counter-theories, and more below!

I'm not against the idea (at this rate it makes the most sense considering what we have to go on), but I think there may be another take on the whole 'his killer was one of your allies' thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet.

What if the killer was Vanescula? Yeah, she claims that she didn't do it....but it's possible that she caused Saf's father to be turned into a vyre, and judging from our interactions with vampyres this far it seems not a whole lot of them actually remember much of their previous 'life' short of knowing if they were born from a human or not.

That would effectively 'kill' a person while not exactly killing them in the context we're used to (and which Drakan may have been implying himself just to mess with us), and would fit the manipulative nature of the vampyres well imo.

Also...

"Plus, how else would Vanstrom have known Safalaan half half-icyenic?"
----
Vanstrom's the guy who managed to trail us around just to find the Myreque's hiding spot when we first got involved in this mess. If he can do that, it shouldn't be too hard to follow Saf around in a similar manner. Or he could've dominated someone with those weird mind control powers they're supposed to have and spied on him that way. Or he was around for Saf's birth and just knew who the parents were through the usual way people find out about that stuff.

You don't exactly need to be someone's father to know who/what they are, after all.

I think the same.

As an added note, it could give context and potential explanation for Vanstrom's mistake of not killing Safalaan a long time ago when he had the chance, as he said in bod - maybe he was a newly-turned vyre at the time and had enough fatherly instinct to not kill his son.
You can only fully appreciate a story when you experience it through the eyes of one of its characters.

Considering that would be the only similarity (if true), then I agree with you that, no, it isn't a Star Wars rip off at all.

It's not like that particular connection between two characters has only ever previously appeared in a Star Wars movie either. Lazy comparison.

I'm hoping not. It really makes little sense to bring up Vanstrom's past, as has been intended for a bit, if both he and his son are dead. I still am hoping Ivan Strom is related in some way to Vanstrom. Ivan Strom being used to explore Vanstrom's past is much more interesting and useful and very interesting since he is a descendent of Ivandis Seergaze. A reveal they honestly didn't do that well with in the end. Made it too low key.

I've seen this theory before and it doesn't really do anything for me. Not that I disagree with the factual logic, I see how it works. I just don't think it has much purpose or emotional wait. If we found this out before we killed him, sure. By after, what the point? Retrospectively going back and adding some details just seems a little odd and weak.

If this was true or is revealed, it wouldn't surprise me. I just don't really see the purpose.
