@Shifu- Well, many of the gods themselves were mere mortal beings who, through exposure to or the absorbing of divine energy, have become immensely powerful beings. Shoot, Guthix was just under, or perhaps on-par with the power and potential for power with exclusively divine beings like Seren and Zaros, but he was born mortal unlike those two. Merely by the exposure to the elder artefacts did he become as powerful as he was.

The reason gods don't seek the advantage of the afterlife is because the World Guardianship was devised by Guthix solely for the purpose of giving a mortal pure immortality and partial immunity from divine powers so that they could take over his role as balance-keeper and guardian over all Gielinor. He did this knowing well that the other gods are ridiculously powerful beings, and most likely he even knew how incomprehensibly powerful the elder gods are, thus he had to give us some sort of way of defending against these. If he was a tier-2 god with powers that were still just a fraction of the elders, him simply giving us some of his power wouldn't really do a whole lot. He knew we had potential for stupidly high amounts of power, thus why he chose us. The elder gods themselves are borderline omnipotent; to face them alone would require immense power even WITH the artefacts.

I do also believe Guthix designed a defense mechanism other than prohibiting our ability to become a god. I think he did some things to us that he didn't tell us, to help protect both us and Gielinor from succumbing to abuse of other gods/beings, or even our own minds. Sure, maybe we can't just hop up to tier-2 capability overnight, but over the course time -- especially if we obtain a few more elder artefacts -- if we studied and stuck around the elder artefacts, permitting their power to permeate into us, we would naturally become more and more powerful.

I still believe we have the potential for near-limitless power, but the question is more in terms of the likeliness of that happening. At our current state, we are just now nearing the powers/abilities of demigods. By the arrival of the Seventh Age, we MIGHT just be topping the power of inexperienced gods. It is gonna take some time unless we find a way around this growth. Then again, it is possible that Guthix's 'spirit' inside of us dictates when we can and cannot harness our power to the necessary degree, but that's a theory for another thread. ~ Jacob, Prince of the Kingdom of Heaven ~

It's like I said on another thread.. somewhere? I thought it was this thread but apparently not.

I don't think we can compare to Demigods like Icthlarin and Amascut yet. I have a feeling Guthix gave us more power than we realize, and we do have the potential to match them.
I'd say more likely than not, we're on the level of divine incarnations. The Bandos Avatar, and the Dark Lord (both of whom we defeated, before the 6th Age mind you), the Avatars in Soul Wars, etc.
It's also worth noting that during the World Wakes, we fought on terms equal enough with Zemouregal and Enakhra, two stronger-than-average Mahjarrat, to the point that they accepted defeat. We defeated General Graardor during Mighty Fall, who was recognized as one of the strongest mortals by the God of War himself. (Say what you will about Blisterwood) We also defeated Lord Lowerniel Vergidiyad Drakan, long thought to be the strongest of the Vyres, and that was before we even gained power from Guthix.

I think the thing about Nex being feared by the gods must be hyperbole; in TWW a freshly-arrived Saradomin effortlessly BFRs both her and Char at the same time.
Nex is currently MUCH weaker than she used to be. I think it's been implied that Zaros's essence within her makes her, at full power, as strong as a demigod, possibly even stronger?

In Fate of The God Zaros claims that she is feared because of what she represents, not her power, though she *is* weaker than she used to be.

I have noticed your kind does tend to blindly stumble forward towards danger simply because it exists. What is your word for that?

Also that. Though like I said, it's implied that she's actually MUCH weaker than she once was. I wouldn't be surprised if she was strong enough to be on a lower godhood-tier at her full power.

In all honesty, we're pushovers. I'm not using combat levels as a comparison, as they are pretty much meaningless at this point.

If it wasn't for potions and special items, we'd probably be as powerful as one of the elves, tops. Thok definitely has us beat strength-wise, and we can't even 1h a greatsword outside of cosmetics.

As for magic, while it got a "buff" in EoC, by basically becoming an archery clone. Lore-wise, that translated to a pretty hefty nerf-hammer, as we now can't even muster up a gust of wind without a wand or a staff doing all the dirty work for us.

Intellectually, I'd say we're on/off. We know how to build stuff out of absolute garbage (Rocking Out), but we're still very very gullible (Priest in Peril, one small favor, Devious minds, temple of ikov)

Also, go ahead: try bossing without your precious potions and damage boosting items, see how long you'll last at even graador.

Went to Graardor with only armour, food, weapon, and Yak.
Was there about... 6 hours.
