Someone just created a brand new account and used my email address to try and validate their account.
I don't want them to have my email address as their logon name, since that is the new system logon. I don't know if that could also allow them to reset my account I've had for years before you needed to logon using an email address. I did go onto the page and reset the password and learned their account name that was associated to my email address and changed that password.
What else should I do? I tried to just forward the message Jagex sent me to support but that message bounced back, I don't know what the customer support email would be, I just figured it would be support@jagex.com but that didn't work.

Thanks in advance

If they cannot log into your email then i would make sure you have 2factor on your
email and not worry about it.

Once a log in is made it is permanent and is different than the registered email.

If you look at your email and do not see any other odd information that has maybe
been deleted where someone has actually been in your email account then all is
well.

The person cant get into your email unless you give them access or the email
servers are hijacked and info leaked.

Hope this helps some, I have also seen people where they log in with their email
thinking they are making a new account and there is already an account with the
email they tried to use which ofc was their own.
The richest person is not who has the most. It is who Needs the least.

Hey BrianZoom!

The best option that your account does not suffer from being hacked is taking the necessary precautions.

The first thing is to have an email that preferably is only for your runescape account. Do not use it to send information or to give it to someone else, the same way no open your email or your RuneScape Account in unknown divices this way you avoid a possible keylogger.

Then activate the 2-step verification either by SMS to your phone or by Authenticator.

Once you have done this then you proceed with activating an authenticator in your account and use it to protect your bank.

Do not accept any link unless it is from Jagex (@ jagex.com)

I hope help you and have fun!

No, it won't reset your account. It won't have any effect.

It is likely the other player typo'd the login of their new account and is now wondering what happened and why they can't log in.

They might try to recover access to their newly created account.
They really have two choices:
* Abandon the account and try account creation again
* Do a 'forgotten login' request to retrieve the login then do a recovery to set a new password and registered email.
If the player decides to recover the account and continue with it, you won't be able to prevent them from using your email as their account login however the account won't have your email as its registered email.

About 20 minutes ago I just an email message that a password reset was denied; now I don't know if that was for my 2006 created account or the other persons 2019 account. I am just happy to see it was denied though. So they are actively trying to get into either theirs or my account still though.
But this is what bothers me is if this person just says I need a password reset and don't have access to "his" (but really my) email account and they do it, what if they select the wrong account and lock me out of my account I created back in 2006 and not the one they created a few days ago in 2019? So if that happens I might get locked out of my account and have no way to access my much older account if they allow that person to register a new email and password change; then how am I even supposed to reach Jagex, I wouldn't even be even able to post here....
Why would they even allow someone to use my email for a logon name? That's my main point, that should have been a logon name "previously taken" even though I don't need to logon using it because I'm grandfathered into an older logon name system.

They cannot select the wrong account.
Accounts are identified by their logins - this player would be identifying the account by its login (your email).
They don't know your old login so they cannot select it.
They don't have access to your email so they will never find out your old login.BrianZoom said:

Your email was not "previously taken" as a login.
It was in use as a registered email only.
