Question and Answer Sessions have been happening all over the town squares of Runescape for some time now in present day Runescape. Maybe you've tripped over one by chance and wondered why all the players were hanging out. Now we're expanding to cover Old School RuneScape as well, posting the times and locations so you don't stub a toe and can get there in one piece.

Never talked to a Level 126 before? Never seen a Level 3 skiller before? Never had a PMod say hello to you? Want to see a skill cape emote? Just like hanging out with a friendly group of players just like you? Think all high levels are stuck up?

Want to know how to get the most out of a skill? Don't understand how the forums are arranged? Can't find something in the OSR RuneScape Wiki? Need major or minor help?

Come chat with us at a Town Square Q & A Meeting. Friendly and helpful Volunteer Mods and Veteran Players will answer your game related questions, perform some emotes and hang out with you for an hour or so in a fun and lively session.

Want to visit us weekly in both games? All the info is on our main thread in Events.

Nope, this isn't a JMod hosted event but an event hosted by a group of PMods, FMods, and veteran players every week. We recently just extended a team to OSR and have two of these over in the main game each week as well (a link to the main thread is somewhere on the first page I believe as well).

Another week and that means another OSR Town Square! Hoping to see some familiar faces (and some new ones) tomorrow night at 2am forum time (Wednesday 9pm EST).

Perhaps a few will be around to show off their new rares... doubt I will though, I haven't been lucky enough to find one. Ah well. :P

Our next session is coming up later tonight - join us at Varrock West Bank at 2am BST for plenty of chatter and feel free to bring your questions too. ^_^

(as a heads up - I won't be there tonight- I just checked my work schedule and they changed it on me, so I won't be able to make it. Ah well, plenty of others will be though :) )

Yes of course! At least a few of us will be there every week Wednesday evening, no matter what. :)

Yeah we're like the coolest cats I know.

Indeed. More buying/selling seems to be going on than anything.

Perhaps a change of scenery is in order. Perhaps have it on world 2, varrock square, where the main game's sessions are held?

Believe the last time I went to w2 Varrock Square it was full of people spamming looking to purchase rare items, so I doubt we'd be heard over that.

Might have just been an off week - we'll have to see how it goes next week and we can always change things later on if needed.

Ice and I made it late - I had to go out and buy a new WiFi router this evening as my old one was on the fritz, and naturally by the time I had it hooked up it was halfway through the session.

Thanks to all who came (even though we were late) and to those who trekked through the desert with us to go find today's Easter Egg in Uzer. Was quite fun and although one of our comrades ended up eating it on accident, it was great going as a group to go find the rare item instead of constantly searching on our own.

Hey if they have a permanent spawn next week we can do it again.

If its a relatively easy to get to spot, then sure. Might be a problem if its locked in a quest area or halfway across the map, though, where some might not be able to make it.

Thanks to those who came - sorry about ducking out early tonight. Turns out the HD on my older laptop (not the one I use for RS) decided to call it quits so I had to dash off to troubleshoot it, etc. Should make for an interesting repair next week though. :P

Thanks for all who stopped by and those who asked us about the cracker location and items - we had great timing that the location and items were discovered during the session, and we sent plenty off to go pick up their crackers.

Have a good week and see you next week!

So is this like NA, but for runescape?

Not sure exactly what the abbreviation NA is to stand for in this case, but its, in simplest terms, a Question and Answer/Chatting session with plenty of friendly and knowledgeable players, if that makes sense.

As a heads up - once again my work schedule has been botched up (this seems to be a recurring process :@) so I won't be able to make it tomorrow. Hopefully I'll make it for next week instead, and hopefully you all will be able to continue the session on without me for this week.

As I mentioned to Ice last night, I'll be a little late to tomorrow's session but should be there about 15 minutes or so in. I think you all will be fine without me for those 15 minutes, though. ;)

Time changes are going to make this a bit fun this week. Seeing as the majority of us are in the US, this week's session will actually take place at
1AM GMT
to keep our normal time the same.

Next week, after the US moves out of DST, the session will be back at the normal 2AM GMT and 9PM EST setup. I'll update the front page momentarily to reflect that.

Apologies for missing it tonight... ended up having to pick up a few extra hours at work as it was extremely busy tonight, else I would have been there.

Hope everyone has a good thanksgiving (if living in the US) and we'll see you next week!

Sorry for missing it tonight - ended up getting stuck at work for an extra 3 hours and wasn't able to easily pop in.

Have updated the first page with a quick note - as for many of us next week's session hits on Christmas Day (that and I'll be away and won't be able to be on anyway), we've gone and cancelled next week's session. We'll see you all in the new year! :)

We'll be meeting up later tonight, approx 6 hours and 15 minutes from the time of this post.

As a heads up though, I might not make it tonight - I've been feeling a bit under the weather the past few days so I can't guarantee I'll be awake late enough to make it.

Also, I don't understand the point of this.

Simple - veteran players and PMods go out in the community to answer questions and chat.

Town Square Q&A is nothing new to RS - in fact, the initiative actually began (in a slightly different form) in 2006 and with a few minor changes along the way, the initiative continues to run and be a success in RS3. We decided to start up an OSRS sect last April as we felt it would be a success in this setting, and sure enough, it has been successful so far for the past 9 months and continues to be a helping hand to many to this day.

Just a quick heads up - Daylight Savings Time is sneaking up on us quicker than we think! In fact, for those of us in the US, we'll be changing our clocks this weekend!

With this said, I've gone and outlined a schedule on the front page of this thread to make it clear when we will be meeting the next few weeks (after this week). Those in the US will find that each session will still meet at its usual time (9PM EST). For those in other parts of the world, this should (if I've done it right) be one hour earlier than before.

Just a quick reminder to those who attend and are from outside of the North American Continent - Daylight Savings time started this past weekend so our times are a little.... well, weird for the next few weeks, so do be sure to check the first page to make sure you show up when we're actually meeting.

If all goes well I should be there tomorrow, as long as nothing else pops up in the meantime (I'm on Spring Break this week, which is nice, but I've been so busy that my ingame time has been a bit limited, so I can't guarantee much).

The Easter event is the event from 2006 - you'll find it just south of Falador. Just make sure to bring a spade with you!

Hard to say really - quite a few of the OSRS team are US based and due to work/school are unable to make it earlier.

Starting up a second team isn't something that's unheard of, though, and has happened multiple times in the 8 year history of the Town Square Initiative. If we happen to have enough that are willing to host a session at an earlier time, then a second session could be started, but I'm not sure if we have enough at this point to do that. Come summer that may change, but its hard to say right now.

Right, so...

This week's session actually marks the first anniversary of the OSRS Town Square team in OSRS, such exciting news! The first thread was posted on 30-Apr-2013, and we'll be having our weekly session this week on the 1st of May (30 April for those of us in the 'States)

Originally I was planning on seeing if we could host some sort of little party/event sort of thing, but I've been kept busy with final projects and haven't managed to plan anything...

But never fear - after a quick few chats with Collin the other night, what we are thinking of doing is having some sort of impromptu conga! I'm sure more info will be coming in the next day or so (probably at the session itself). All rubber chickens are welcome! ^_^

Yes, the conga was fun - we'll have to do those more often. Many seemed to like it and joined in, which was a plus (even if they didn't know what it was for).

Next session will be on Thursday (Wednesday for the US), as usual.

*sits down at computer*

I'm back to working full time during the summer (semester at school has ended), and that means that for the majority of the day I can't pop in at all. Tonight I got out at 7pm (midnight BST), but first had to drive home, make dinner, etc...

Its possible that there could be a session at a different time, but as I won't know my work schedule for the week before and it changes every week, I just can't ever know when I'll be around. I can guarantee that I'll be home and ready by the time the session is now, but can't guarantee the same if I were to move it up. :|

*bumps this up*

I've been a bit 'out of commission' all day, not feeling too great, so can't guarantee that I'll make it to Town Square tomorrow but had a bit of a random thought...

We've had a fairly large influx of newer players with the current F2P trial, so was curious if anyone else would like to have tomorrow's TS on one of the F2P worlds? Just a random thought. Feel free to get back to me if you think that would be a decent idea and we can work something out.

Hour and 45 minutes from the time of this post.

I think we're going to go with World 381 at Varrock Square for now. The bank is too crowded, but decent activity at the square where we won't be overrun by traders, so that should work for now.

There weren't that many people at World 382 when I happened to stop by there... although I did get asked twice if I was willing to sell my members items to someone, lol.

Things permitting, we'll go back to the same place as last time (World 381, Varrock Square) for tomorrow. I'll update the first post with this as well.

The F2P trial ends after this week, so after this week we'll head back to the usual world. We can always try Varrock Square there again should people want to though.

Not the busiest day at the square, so we're going to go on a conga around F2P we think. I'll try and update with location as I can.

Edit: Ended up staying at the square. Thanks to all who stopped by.

On later tonight... although unsure of tonight's location. The F2P trial is still ongoing, so if F2P worlds still have a quite a few people on them we might just go back to W381. Otherwise, we'll go back to W330, at the usual location.

I won't have time to check how busy places are until later tonight, though, so we'll figure it out then.

On in an hour and a half. The F2P trial is still on-going, so we'll be on the F2P themed worlds again.

Next week we might have to plan an excursion though... Town Square helpers vs... some other clan in clan wars. Am sure we'll get destroyed, but it could be fun!

I'll just ask my question here if that is okay? My apologies if it isn't.
"Why are Q&A sessions on Thursdays/Wednesdays/this general time, rather than say Friday/Saturday/Sunday?"

:)

When setting up the session, we tried to pick a time that would work for those of us hosting the session. At the time, I was working weekends (and I still do work weekends) with a fairly flexible schedule, so I couldn't guarantee weekends, and I had night classes Tuesday & Thursday, so those were out of the picture (Thursday/Friday already has a RS3 session as well).

So to answer your question... really it just depended on when we collectively as a group were available. Wednesday/Thursday (depending on where you are) happened to be a time that worked for us, so that's what we went with.

'Morning Ownage,

The European session was just brought back recently. Setting up one for OSRS though depends completely on when people are available.

I can't guarantee anything but I'll see if I can find out when people might be available to see if one would be feasible (we don't have a team the size of the RS3 team, who have different members at each session, so we're a bit more limited). I know its very unlikely that I would be able to make it though as my work schedule is different every week, and me requesting a specific day off each week probably wouldn't go over too well.

Sooooo I've done a little bit of wandering around this morning, to see as to what world we'd like to be on for tonight.

Populations in F2P worlds are down - could be for a few reasons, some at work, but at the same time though many have had their 2 weeks expire and haven't continued to make more accounts.

What I'm considering for tonight is to venture back to World 330 (which is still busy as always), either at the bank where we used to be or at the Square, doesn't matter. Hot topics tonight are bound to be the Authenticator, which is something that members will be much more interested in.

I'll take another look around when I get home from work later to make a final decision, but just throwing that out there.

On later tonight! :)

Taking another look at the F2P world populations, they've gone down a little bit more since the swap at the beginning of the trial, so I'll edit the first page to reflect that we'll be staying now on World 330 unless for some reason something compels us to go elsewhere. Last week it was a little bit crazy outside the bank, so if people would like to move to the square again we can do that.

On in about an hour - see you there! :)

Hey Ownage, thanks for your feedback. To address some of your concerns...

Point 1) Being outside the bank was a bit too hectic, hence the reason we've been trying out Varrock Square the past few weeks, which, while we don't run into as many people as before, makes it so we're not in the middle of a spampit, so to speak. We do like to stay on the more 'populated' worlds, though - the key to success is to have a large outreach. The more people who we might run into, the better.

Its also important to remember that... most who we meet ingame aren't necessarily forum users - they don't know that we're out ingame every week. There's a much greater chance of running into people interested in asking questions or chatting in a world with 1000 people than one with 200 people.

Points 2 & 3) Many of us are friends and do enjoy chatting to each other, yes, so I do see where you're coming from with saying its a social hub. However, at the same time, many who are playing OSRS are well seasoned players. They knew what they were doing from the start, unlike those that we used to run into back when I first started attending Town Square sessions in 2010 who often were very new to the game and had many more questions.

Many who stop by might not have any questions to ask, but are always friendly and chatty - the goal of the event isn't only to answer questions, but at the same time to simply get a chance to hang out with those who play the game too, whether they are new to the game, PMods or just seasoned veterans.

Next session on in 35 minutes.

Everyone's favorite time of year is just around the corner (referring to time changes, of course). I'll be putting up the schedule for when each session is for the next few weeks up soon, once I take a look at when everyone changes time (would be soo much easier if everyone changed at the same time, but of course there's just no way that would ever happen).

Have updated the second post slightly with the time for next week (and weeks after), due to time changes.

The session will move up one hour for one week to 1AM GMT, rather than 2AM GMT, so that it will be at the same time it currently is in the US, where the majority of helpers are located. The week after everything should be back to normal again.

On later tonight. The last session we had we moved slightly closer to the West bank again, as that seemed to get us a bit more traffic than the Varrock Square, so we'll most likely be a bit closer to the bank again tonight.

FYI - When F2P does come out we will most likely be moving permanently to F2P worlds. The specific details of that won't be up until after we see what worlds are most populated and what areas are most populated for the success of future sessions.

From previous trends from years in the past, well before OSRS was released, Lumbridge courtyard can at times work out well. The GE has worked well in its recent trial in the RS3 sessions so that may be a spot to look into when the GE is released too.

When we set the session times up in the first place, I tried to set the time at one where it wouldn't interfere with the RS3 sessions which happen both later in the week as well as on the weekend. Many of us participate on both sides and we wouldn't want them to interfere with each other. My schedule in particular can be a bit crazy on the weekends too.

Depending on how things go though there is always the potential for a second session to start up at a different time but it all depends on if there is enough demand for it plus enough volunteers to ensure it goes well.

So myself and Mej scouted out a few worlds and...

We think we'll host tonight's session (on in about an hour and 10 minutes) on World 393, starting at Lumbridge Castle's Courtyard.

Depending on how things go though we might wander around a bit and skill with some of the F2Pers, so it wouldn't hurt to bring some basic skilling items (axes, pickaxes) in case you want to skill a tiny bit as well.

Right, so its everyone's favorite time of year... timezone changes. :@

Have updated the opening post with the times for the next few weeks. I included in the location of at/near the Grand Exchange to the post too, as that's most likely where we'll be for a bit. :)

Edit: We'll be on World 301 for now.

On in 50 minutes.

This week's session also marks the 2 year anniversary of the OldSchool Town Square Q&A Initiative, which started the week this thread opened in 2013.

I don't have anything too special planned for the session, but we'll see what we come up with.

(In other news, World 393 was fairly quiet last week, so depending on how things go we may move to a slightly busier world. I'll update closer to the time after I've had a chance to scout out some worlds).

On in an hour and a half or so, presuming there aren't any network issues tonight. If there are and the servers are dropping everyone, we'll just push this off to next week instead.

Due to the disconnections this evening, OSRS Town Square is cancelled for tonight.

Glad you enjoyed, Ananym. :)

EnglishKing, we usually stay away from using a clan chat for Town Square, as that isn't the style of event it is meant to be. The goal for the event is to have discussion in public, rather than in a clan chat where it is very much hidden away.

Any post made prior to a user becoming an FMod stay as their original color (similar to FMods who leave the team having new posts be regular ones but ones made as an FMod be green) - this thread was made close to a year prior to joining the FMod team, so the first year or so of posts aren't green.

Bit of forum trivia for you there. :)

Due to time changes coming up in the next week, the times for next week's session are as follows:

01:00 Thursday Forum Time & Game Time
01:00 GMT (Thursday)United Kingdom
9 p.m. EDT Wednesday Eastern U.S.

This is the same time as usual for those in the US, but the UK/forum time is different as the UK switches time zones this week.

This change is effective for one week, as after that the US will switch and all will be back to normal again.

Thanks to those who came tonight. :) There may be more halloween fun coming next week.

Next session will be in approximately 4 hours - I should hopefully be there, but its possible I may get dragged away for family related things (though I'm sure others will be there to continue on without me if that is the case).

General questions are best asked in their own thread on the forums. ;) This thread in particular is for an in-game event hosted weekly where questions are answered, and really isn't designed for much questioning answering itself.

Thanks to all who attended tonight.

A heads up that times are a little messy for the next few weeks due to the time changes coming up. The times for the next few weeks are as follows (presuming I did my math right):

01:00 Thursday Forum Time
01:00 GMT (Thursday)United Kingdom
9 p.m. EDT Wednesday Eastern U.S.

For the sessions hosted 30/31 March and beyond:

02:00 Thursday Forum Time
02:00 BST (Thursday)United Kingdom
9 p.m. EDT Wednesday Eastern U.S.
