I've posted this elsewhere, but making a separate post all its own here.

I mean, really. It's got so anymore if I want to find out anything that's going to happen in game or any game updates or changes that are going to be made, I can't find it on the forums. Why? Because some people who SHOULD be posting info that needs to get to players aren't posting it on RSOF; they're posting it on Twitter or Reddit instead.

Yeah, it's nice you folks have presence on both those sites; and Reddit can sometimes be a help? But Twitter? I don't use Twitter anymore because it's too spammy. And I know several people w ho don't have Reddit or Twitter accounts, simply because they don't want the extra hassle.

I can understand when y'all make some announcement that affects the game on Twitter or even on Reddit, because there are people who follow those media, but for those of us who don't, and some who can't (a minor age clan member has parents who refuse to authorize him setting up accounts on those sites), then the place folks go for information on what affects the game is here -- RSOF.

So why, when y'all post something on Twitter or Reddit, why not also post it HERE as well? Because last time I looked, RSOF mean "RuneScape Official Forums." This is where all those announcements should be. Lots of us who don't follow the tweety-heads were completely unaware of the one week extension of the Fayre, so were quite surprised to see it still around. I searched several posts here and finally expressed concern about it in the original Fayre thread, to which some kind soul (hint: not a JMod) replied with a quote from <cough> Mod Shauny </cough> posting about it on Twitter.

Face it, Jagex; we're not all on Twitter. POST IT HERE ALSO! For those of us who have either never had Twitter accounts or have stopped using the ones we have because we don't care for the high spam content. And keep the O in RSOF!

Would be nice if they had a forum version of Shauny that nolifes the forums and posts everything on here only.

Its pretty lame to see them post everywhere else daily but crickets here. I really don't want to follow them around the world and have to follow them on every other place just to hear basic game info.

Jagex has this odd insistence of doing things their own way and reinventing the wheel at every opportunity.

That's why we have a derelict forums with more subforums than forum users. The forum lacks basic features that most forums had over 10 years ago. Jmods can't log into their Jmod accounts outside the Jagex office, so their presence on the forums is basically just a few posts during lunchtime and dedicated community manager mods.

Why twitter/reddit? Because they can actually LOG ON outside the office. Not having to deal with these archaic forums is also a bonus.
Don't forget ľ RuneScape members get TWO free spins a day instead of the usual one!

The thing is announcements are not thought up outside of work hours - all this talk over the years they can't use RSOF outside of work hours to inform us is bullocks - what job has information download outside of work hours? What job communicates all new important game info outside of work hours? What job discuss new game content outside of work hours? What employer tells it staff to communicate game information outside of work hours? It all a load of bullocks; all information is discussed during business hours, what ever the hours may be in Jagex case that is. If they were doing phone conference outside of business hours they would certainly have account clearance such as Mod Lee does in there own home, but since all game discussion happens within the hours of work, all information can be delivered to RSOF within the hours of work. It's just a bs excuse stating they don't have the means to communicate with us outside of hours when all information is given during work hours.

A company's forums and websites are not only for making announcements. In the case of Jagex, the websites also deliver GE quotes, hiscores, future development plan of the game, etc. Game forums also allow players to give their constructive comments on the game. Well, supposedly so at least for other games, but in the case of RS, the forums are more like the place for a few users to complain and rant... :D:D:D

If one looks at the usefulness of using the forums just to make announcements, I'd say these forums probably don't need to exist at all since formal announcements are usually done the business way through Press Release and such. Changes in the game are typically delivered with in game patch notes.

A lot of games don't even have forums. Some very high profile games, e.g., GTA, Monster Hunter etc only have very low usage forums symbolically, with even less traffic than these Jagex forums. Hey, these are some of the top grossing video games last month... so you should know what developers and the vast majority of gamers (I means the ones who don't live in the forums) think about game forums. ;)

The fact is that, no one really comes to the forums, so why should Jagex care to even look at it? The only mod that I think ever is given the job of looking thru the forums are Mod Balance and Mod Kalaya. Those 2 mods are the only mods that I have ever seen most active on the forums.

The other reason why is that they do not want to deal with spammy and trolly things, which can be more easily controlled on reddit than on this forum, even though Jagex owns this forum.

At the same time, you are opening what you post to a lot more users at Reddit, and Reddit features a lot more formatting features.

Spammy and trolly things are easily buried in Twitch and other streaming platforms by 99.99% of the players who only care and talk about the games.

No need to even care about moderation in any forums, whether it is the company's own, or other text based sites. :D:D:D

There has been much support for this. Yes.
The excuse used is a "Crock."
