Apologies if you felt my post was off-topic, I was just saying that there are a lot of factors that go into whether a thread gets locked or not through derailment, and also whether said derailment-related lock means the thread is able to be remade or not.
Mod Leesaid: Although "all threads are locked for a reason", you are allowed to remake a thread if the actual discussion that the OP was trying to address was legitimate. Sometimes valid and legitimate discussion threads are derailed and as a result, the thread loses control of its direction.
If there's multiple pages of trolling, flaming or bad behavior that derails the actual discussion and topic at hand - then hiding all of those posts won't (always) do the trick. So sometimes it is better to actually lock the thread and have the OP remake or "restart" the thread to try and have a legitimate discussion. These cases aren't very common but it's definitely a valid way to fix a thread.
