If its past page 50, I'd wager that the stats are too outdated.

Na, it was a General forum post, stickied and I would say in the last 3 to 6 months. Not outdated at all.

That's player support stats and nothing at all to do with forums??

No, it was a thread on how many people came into the forums, how many people posted on the forums. It was really interesting. A hell of a lot more people came in than what I realized. Around 300 a week or a day visited the forums - I can't remember the facts, but it was interesting.

Aye it was a thread by Jeremy Cheng if I recall and Mod Cam a community manager answered questions about forum users. I think he said 3,000 or 5,000 unique users visited the forums in a month.

The topic was about forum use in general I think. Mod Cam gave a bunch of statistics. Don't think I took screenshots of them sadly.

Well she said sticked, so that's what I looked for. Anyhow, since it can't be found, we should drop it.

Well that was the closest we got to a real measure of forum users. The user counter to the left of my profile has been broken for a couple years.

I still see people quote that broken counter as scripture on reddit and here to justify deleting this place, with the ole 167,718 gilenorians online 1,365 users here on reddit now vs rsof 6 users online. At least the player count at the very top doesn't seem to have that issue cept for bots prolly.

I'd personally reply to more things if I didn't have to login all the time, it's a real pain to watch a movie and have to relog in every single time. Wish they had a remember me button like other sites have by now. It's a shame how outdated this place became, but sadly people probably moved on by even if they do update this century.

Even when assuming your numbers for unique viewers were approximately correct. Is this stat really meaningful anyways? People can log in and not post anything/not read any threads, and it'd still count towards the unique visitors. I used to only bump my clan recruitment thread, and I counted towards the unique visitors, but do these visitors really indicate how active/alive the forums is?

I think a stat that can better represent activity would be something like the number of non-hidden threads and comments made.

There
was
a thread made by Jagex, but I wouldn't have a clue where it is or if it has gone of page 50. It was quite formative and quite surprising how many people come into the forums and post in the forums on.

I still feel it was made by Jagex, I could be wrong. It was a good thread and I did ask FH for help finding it with no luck, nor will they ask Jagex. So it's a dead end sorry. The thread is only 3 - 6 months old and I was impressed with the data.

"Officially dead".

Seems to me that people are still posting here regularly.

"Not many people post here".

Debatable, but you cannot deny the veteran forum users who have remained and contributed regularly.

"Removing the RuneScape forums would decrease Jagex's operational costs, and make more room for revenue. "

1. How significant would Jagex save in operational costs if they were to remove the forums?
2. How do you think the veteran Forum community would feel if their forums were removed? Especially when there are members of the community who do not favour social media platforms.
3. Should we be subjecting such a community to a situation where they need to create a social media account to maintain contact with Jagex?

(all these questions were asked slightly rhetorically)

"I do agree that this is a good place for feedback, but many people are putting that feedback on reddit."

Many people are also not putting their feedback on reddit and on the forums. Like me and I'm sure a number of us here as well.

"On top of that, beta or mobile beta feedback can easily be done/(implemented into) via the in game "bug report/feedback"."

It seems that you come under the impression that the sole purpose of the Forums is for feedback. It is not. I ask that you venture through the different subforums and you might find an appreciation for its varying subcommunities. The keyword here is community.

"a murky community where people are now arguing over views of something or EVEN A MEANING OF A WORD in forums that are meant for in game content."

1. Is this representative of other subcommunities or the Forum community in general?
2. This is obviously a behaviour that you've singled out. But such a minute, circumstantial factor should not play a role in deciding whether to shut the forums down.
3. Also, definition-wars are just a common feature in any argument because human society naturally endeavours to define boundaries.

They would make more money.

2. How do you think the veteran Forum community would feel if their forums were removed? Especially when there are members of the community who do not favour social media platforms.
Who cares?

3. Should we be subjecting such a community to a situation where they need to create a social media account to maintain contact with Jagex?
Their choice, they wont be missed either way.
