Different teams and likely have their own set deadlines for whatever reason(s) - I doubt any of us really understand the workings of Jagex in regards to topics like that, we can only assume. Personally that seems the most logical to me.

There's an unspoken rule in developer circles called no push Friday, the idea being that you don't want to submit any code changes on a Friday because in the event it breaks something, you won't be back until Monday to fix it, or you'll be working over the weekend. Updating on a Thursday is awfully close to a Friday, and might mean you fix the Thursday issues ON a Friday, breaking the no push Friday rule.

So Monday might win this one out.

A possible answer to why they do different days at all is because the people who write the code and the people who manage the servers that run it aren't the same, and there's a team dedicated to that exclusively. They have a lot less work to do if the updates aren't coinciding at the same time, and so it probably works better for Jagex to not push both games updates on a Monday.

That's probably because the RS3 and OSRS teams observe different bank holidays. :P:P:P

Well, actually Monday release seems to be more beneficial to the players since if something goes wrong, the developers will have a full week instead of one day to fix it. I do believe developers need to enjoy life in the weekends. :)

If I recall correctly from back when OSRS launched, they stated that the same team handles the actual deployment of updates for both RS3 and OSRS - so having them on the same day wasn't feasible. Why they went with Thursday instead of Tuesday or Wednesday though I cannot recall.

Why does OSRS update every thursday instead of monday like RS3 which would be better?

Are we asking two different questions here?

Why does OSRS update on Thursday instead of Monday ?

And

Which update day would be better?

Spacing the days out means that each game has a chance for its players to enjoy the update. If you play both games that would mean enjoying both content equally.

I prefer update days on a Tuesday. With Monday's being bank holidays for parts of the year, an Tuesday update would work better.

Yet sometimes when things break, it takes them a week to release a " fix" to the content they broke the previous week. So I don't believe it has anything to do with " fixing things" fast.

Even 1 week is optimistic, lol!
